Hi everyone! I wanted an opinion on something I am facing. My mother has fallen sick and my organisation doesn’t seem keen to provide me unpaid time off work and I think that I may have to resign. My question here is that is it necessary for me to be employed while applying to b-schools? I am being a little too optimistic here and thinking that if push comes to shove and I do have to resign, I can be at home and manage my chores so as to allow me time to prep which should ideally lead to a score increase form current 610 to 680-690. However, with not being employed will it affect my chances if I am unemployed with 7 years+ experience as a chef manager cum trainer at a leading hotel brand in India? A 29 year old female here. Please shed some light as to what are the possibilities here. Thanks!!!

Hi! The business schools are fairly accommodating about extenuating circumstances. Like any other business school, ISB does ask for a reason to leave the organisation and there is no harm in being honest about it. You have good amount of experience and I believe you will have many interesting stories to share with the adcom and with the larger class (should you get admitted). I would recommend you to be very clear in your short term and long term essay so that the adcom is able to join the dots with your past experience.

Hi everyone,

This is Richa. I have query regarding gmat online exam and ISB round 1 deadlines. My first gmat online exam was scheduled yesterday however due to technical issues, I couldn’t give the exam. And now I have to reschedule it after 16 days. So I am planning to write it in the last week of August. However I am worried that I won’t be able to apply in round 1 of ISB as I will get very less amount of time for writing the essays. Can anyone suggest me what should I do? Below is my profile:

10th: 10 CGPA; 12th: 93.6; Btech:9.47 (NIT), Workex: 3 years in July 2021 in Tata Steel, Operations Manager, Current Mock scores: 720, Target School: ISB Hyderbad

Can I do that in parallel with my gmat preparations? Also should I hire a consultant for my essays?

I think you can do it in parallel. It’s a good break from prep and could also help for AWA section. You can work on the essays yourself, don’t think you need a consultant.

Hi Innes,
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Taking this time off isn’t something that I had planned but has come up all of a sudden and am looking at leveraging the time to take care of Mom and also devote more time to application prep and GMAT prep. Having these under the way, I believe I do stand a fair chance at an admit. Thanks for your inputs! I have more information on my options now and I can save myself from unnecessary regret. 😊
