Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some advice on my ISB application strategy. Specifically, I'd like to understand whether it's better to apply in Round 1 with a decent GMAT score or wait until Round 2/3 to submit a stronger score.

645+ and you should be good for R1.

And don't rush if your score is less than 625, improve and apply in later rounds.

Thanks! However, wouldn’t a sub CGPA in undergrad be a challenge. I believe I’ll have to do really well in GMAT to compensate.

It’s not very high but it’s not very low either that you will have overcompensate it. I bet a score above 655 will fetch you an interview call if your application conveys what it must. 🙂

Apply with your best GMAT whether R1 or R2 doesn’t matter much.

A great GMAT score in R2 is better than a not-so-good GMAT score in R1

But what’s great and what’s not-so-good is pretty subjective and changes from case to case.

So see your best performance in GMAT and once it reflects in GMAT then apply. It’s best not to delay beyond R2 if you score is 645 or above but not your best. 🙂

You've already got a lot going for you. The academics are great, and your experience across Zomato, LiveMint, and Disney+/JioStar gives you a much more interesting story than the usual applicant. The international CRM and growth work is a nice differentiator too.

If I were looking at just one thing now, it'd be the GMAT. A 685+ puts you in a good spot, while 705+ gives you a lot more breathing room.

On the R1 vs R2 question, I wouldn't rush just for the sake of applying early. If your first score is around where you think it should be, send the R1 application. But if you come out of the exam knowing you left points on the table and can realistically improve, I'd take a few extra weeks and apply in R2 with the better score.

One thing I'd spend time on is showing that you're more than just a marketing person. Your application should make it obvious that you've influenced business decisions, worked across teams, and driven measurable growth. That's the part that'll stick with the admissions committee far more than whether you applied in R1 or R2.

You've actually built the kind of profile ISB likes to see. Seven years of experience with clear progression, leading a 15-member team, client-facing work with CXOs, international exposure, hiring, training, and internal leadership—there's a lot of substance here.

The only thing that jumps out as a weak spot is the 6.73 CGPA, but your 10th/12th scores are strong enough that I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
If you can land somewhere in the 705-725 range, I think you'll be in a very competitive position. A 715-735 is obviously great if you can get there, but I wouldn't obsess over every extra 10 points.

Where I'd spend the most effort is the application itself. Don't make it read like a list of projects. Show how you've grown from an individual contributor at KPMG to someone leading teams, working with CXOs, and influencing the firm's growth. That progression is your biggest selling point.

Overall, this feels like a profile that should be aiming for an ISB interview, not wondering whether it's competitive.

Hi everyone,
Applying to ISB PGP Round 1 for Class of 2028. Deadline is September 20, 2026. Need clarity on a few timeline questions from anyone who has been through this recently (2024-25 or 2025-26 cycle preferably).
My situation:

Targeting GMAT Focus Edition exam in late August 2026 (Aug 25 or Aug 27)
Current mock score around 665, targeting 705+
Working professional, based in Pune
This will be my first GMAT attempt

Questions I need help with:


Official score reporting timeline:

After the GMAT Focus exam, how long does it actually take for the official score to reach the school portal? ISB says "approximately 2 weeks" but I’ve heard varying experiences.
Does selecting the school as one of the 5 free score recipients on exam day genuinely speed things up? Or does it not make much difference?
Has anyone had score verification delays beyond 2 weeks with GMAT Focus recently?



Aug 25/27 exam → Sept 20 R1 deadline — is this timing safe?

I’m calculating about 10-day buffer between score arrival and R1 deadline. Is this realistic or am I cutting it too close?
Anyone here who took the exam in late August and applied to ISB R1 — did the score reach in time?
What’s the latest exam date you’d recommend for a safe R1 submission?

I’m a General Engineer Male, 5+ years work exp in SAP consulting (Cognizant → Capgemini → Accenture), marquee clients (Mars, BP, Coca-Cola).
Some say R1 is significantly better for scholarships and interview slots. Others say a polished R2 app is fine.
Given the GEM/IT bucket is oversubscribed, is R1 realistically much better, or is the difference marginal?
Any GEM/IT applicants here who got in through R2 with strong essays?

GMAT Focus lets you cancel score right after seeing it. If Aug 25 score is disappointing (say 685), and I cancel — can I retake by Sept 10 to try for R1?
Or is it safer to keep whatever comes and use it for R2 with a retake in October?

You don’t need to burden yourself with calculation of that timing.

You get 48 hours window to send scores to 5 schools and you should just send the score.

In case there is any discrepancy and they are unable to find your reported scores then they will reach you out on mail but it will have no bearing on assessment of your application.

So even if you take test on 19th September and fill the score in admission form and report the score next day on 20th, you will be fine 🙂

Real world chances of GEM candidate from IT??? *BRIGHT* just get a score of 675 or more and translate your experiences well in application 😃

I gave the exam in Dec'24...It took about 2 weeks for my verified score to appear on mba.com, so I could send my official score only after that...no option to send the score on the same day (it used to be the case earlier)

Any specific reason for the delay that GMAC communicated???

Usually everyone is getting score update just the next day.

They didn't mention any reason, they just said that verification takes more time at times

In hindsight, I do remember my screen had blacked out for a min and my proctor had to fix it...maybe that could have been the reason for the delay, but they didn't say so

So you took at-home GMAT exam... right???

In case of at-honestly exam version there have been many such irregularities... and usual time of official score report was 4 days...

At-home gmat is not acceptable anymore at ISB.

Hi bhavya1999, theoretically you can appear in GMAT even on the day of the application deadline (September 20). Send the score to ISB immediately after the exam.

The official score, in that case, will obviously reach ISB after the deadline, but that's completely fine.
