the unconventional part of your profile is actually your biggest advantage here. going from hairstyling → physics → consulting, while also building an ngo, gives you a story that most applicants simply won't have.

the obvious weak spot is the 65.6% in 12th and 64.7% in graduation, so i'd try to compensate with the GMAT. for ISB, i'd target 705+, and if you can get 715+, even better.
your work experience is still a little short, so make sure you can show clear progression and actual impact at GlobalData rather than just responsibilities. and definitely use the hairstyling-to-corporate transition well, it shows initiative and ability to learn, but don't make the application overly emotional around it.

overall, i'd say worth applying, but the GMAT and the quality of your career-impact story will matter quite a bit for you.

Hello everyone
I’m planning to apply for the ISB PGP and would really appreciate your honest assessment of my profile and guidance on the GMAT score I should target.

My journey has been quite unconventional. I started my career as a hairstylist, and over time, through continuous self-learning and upskilling, I transitioned into the corporate world. I completed my B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics from Aligarh Muslim University, with 83.33% in 10th, 65.6% in 12th, and 64.71% in graduation.

Today, I have around 3 years of professional experience and currently work as a Consulting Analyst at GlobalData, where I work on business and industry analysis, modelling, forecasting and strategic insights, particularly across the TMT and emerging technology space.

Alongside my professional journey, I am also a co-founder and Vice President of a Central Government-registered NGO, which has given me meaningful experience beyond my corporate career.

Given my unconventional transition from hairstyling to a corporate consulting role, academic background, professional experience and extracurricular journey, I would like to understand how competitive my profile would be for the ISB PGP.

Could you please review my profile and advise:

1. How strong is my profile for ISB PGP?
2. What GMAT score should I ideally target to have a strong chance of admission?
3. Are there any particular areas of my profile that I should strengthen before applying?

I would be grateful for your honest feedback and guidance.

this is a pretty interesting ISB profile, mainly because the MBBS + MD + 7 years of clinical experience gives you a very different story from the usual applicant.

the academics are definitely the weaker part, especially the 54% in MBBS, so i'd make the GMAT a priority. ISB doesn't have a GMAT cutoff and explicitly says it evaluates the overall profile holistically, but a strong test score can help offset weaker academics.

i'd personally aim for 705+, and if you can push toward 715+, even better. I wouldn't treat 655–675 as an automatic rejection either, but with your academic history, I'd want the score as high as realistically possible.

the bigger question will be why MBA after medicine. You need a very convincing reason for the switch and a clear post-MBA healthcare story. Your clinical experience, patient exposure, community work and medical background can actually become a major strength if you connect them properly to what you want to do next.

so overall: academics = concern, experience = strong differentiator, GMAT = biggest lever, career story = absolutely critical. I'd definitely apply rather than count yourself out.

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some feedback on my profile for ISB PGP.

* Academics: 10th – 85.5%, 12th – 79.8%, MBBS – 54%
* Education: MBBS + MD (Pediatrics)
* Work experience: ~7 years of professional experience across clinical and hospital settings. This includes compulsory medical service after MBBS, 3 years of MD residency in Pediatrics, and post-residency experience as a pediatrician.
* Extracurriculars/volunteering: 2 years of NSS during MBBS; mentoring experience with FEA; volunteered as a pediatrician at community medical camps.
* GMAT: Currently preparing and planning to take the GMAT soon.

I would really appreciate an assessment of my profile for ISB and, particularly, what GMAT score I should realistically target to have a strong chance of getting an interview/admit.

Would also be interested in knowing if there are any particular strengths or weaknesses in my profile that I should address in my application. Thanks!

for this profile, i’d aim for 705+, with 715–725 being a really nice range for ISB.

your academics + non-engineer female profile + KPMG/IR experience already give you a decent base, so you don’t need to chase some crazy score. the main thing is making sure the career gap is explained cleanly and your current role shows progression/impact.

if you hit 705+, i’d be comfortable applying. if you’re around 675–695, you can still take a shot, but i’d personally retake if there’s a realistic chance of pushing it up.

Hi Wamika28,
That is an interesting set of profile parameters. After evaluation, this is what we think:

A 9.0 CGPA from LSR in B.Com (Hons) is one of the stronger academic signals a non-engineering Indian applicant can bring, and it shifts what the GMAT actually needs to do in this file.

- For most programs where this profile is competitive, a current GMAT in the 655 to 685 range (roughly equivalent to 700 to 720 on the classic scale) would clear the academic screen and let the rest of the application carry the weight. Below 645 on the current scale, the score starts asking questions that the rest of the file then has to answer.
- The IR specialization across KPMG and the boutique firm is differentiated in the Indian applicant pool, where finance backgrounds more often skew toward Big 4 audit or investment banking; the sharper admissions task is making the CXO proximity concrete, because "working closely with" reads thin unless the essays convert it into decisions influenced and outcomes owned.
- The eight-month gap needs one sentence of explanation in the application, nothing more. Family emergencies are understood, and this one is bracketed by a clear return to a client-facing role.
- LSR is read correctly by most top programs, so undergraduate institution is not a concern here.

Getting the score into that 655 to 685 band and then spending the remaining time on specificity in the career narrative will serve this application better than chasing a higher number.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed. Contact us directly – submit a query here.

Hi PoshTest,
Thanks for posting. Here is what we have concluded after going through your profile;

A Lancaster 2:i in Economics sits comfortably for programs that don't heavily weight UK undergraduate grades. Still, the reader's real focus will land almost immediately on whether a 715 from a current GMAT applicant is enough to keep this file moving — and that depends entirely on which schools are in play.

- Two ventures, one with a successful exit, is an unusual profile for an MBA pool. The risk is that "founded and exited" can stay thin on the page: readers will want to know the revenue scale, the team size, the client base, and what the exit actually meant in financial terms. Without those numbers, the entrepreneurial story reads as a lifestyle business rather than commercial achievement.
- The current GMAT 715 sits roughly in the range historically associated with a Classic 760 to 770, which is above the median at most strong programs outside M7. That's a meaningful distinction: if the schools being targeted are ISB, INSEAD, or similar, the score is an asset, not a concern. The concern shifts to whether nine years without a corporate career creates any "leadership in structured environments" gap.
- What post-MBA goals look like is the part this post hasn't addressed, and for someone with two ventures already, admissions committees will ask this harder than they ask most applicants. The question isn't whether entrepreneurship is credible — it's why an MBA now, specifically, adds something that two business-building cycles haven't.
- The artisan and sustainability angle in the current venture is genuinely differentiating, particularly for programs with strong social enterprise or impact-investing communities. That positioning is worth deliberate emphasis in essays, because it gives the file a specific identity that serial-founder profiles without it tend to lack.

Getting the goals narrative tight — precise sector, credible bridge from the current venture, clear reason for the timing — will do more for this application than any other single piece of work ahead.

Hi urvichauhan,
After going through your profile and queries. Here is what we have concluded:

When a reader reaches the academics section of this file, 70% will register, but it won't sit alone: the 8.5 CGPA and the XIC Grade A are right beside it, and that sequence reads as someone who found their footing after a difficult year rather than someone with a sustained academic ceiling.

- The academic picture actually works in a specific way for ISB: the school sees Class 12 scores in context, and a reader who spots 93% at Class 10, a rough patch, then recovery through a postgraduate diploma is following a coherent arc. Where this gets trickier is that ISB also weighs the applicant's undergraduate institution, and a Tier-2 college means the 8.5 CGPA doesn't carry the same signal a similar score from a top-tier institution would. A 695 on the current GMAT Focus (which sits roughly in the territory of a Classic 720 by percentile) would do real work here, because at that level the score functions less as a checkbox and more as evidence that quantitative ability was never the issue.

- The sharper admissions risk in this file is the goals statement. "Putting Indian brands on the map" is a genuinely distinctive aspiration, but ISB's reader will need to see a specific post-MBA role, a plausible hiring pathway, and a reason why that role requires an ISB network rather than five more years in advertising. The Blue Elephant, the ₹1 crore campaign budgets, and the 0-to-1 startup experience are concrete and impressive; the bridge from those facts to a named, realistic MBA outcome is where the file could lose ground.

The profile has more going for it than this applicant seems to realise, and the Class 12 score is genuinely the smallest of the open questions.

Profile for Evaluation
My personal and professional trajectory is all about taking the road less travelled. I am from Dehradun, studied PCM (ICSE board), scored 93% in 10th and 70% in 12th, and found out in 12th that I am not the engineering-material student that everyone assumes you to be in a small town.

I was a student with a creative edge and journalism abilities. By then, it was too late to do better in 12th, so I joined a Tier-2 college (8.5 CGPA) and later Xavier’s Institute of Communication (Grade A) for my postgraduate diploma in advertising.

Since then, I have been a copywriter in advertising agencies. I have worked with Netflix, Spotify, and Uber to deliver successful campaigns and got awarded a Blue Elephant for my work with Netflix. It has been 5+ years, and currently I am working at an advertising start-up, building it from 0 to 1 as a Creative Group Head, leading a team of 5 people and working on campaigns with budgets as high as ₹1 crore to deliver maximum reach, views, and impact.

As much as I love advertising, I know that the real work happens at the grassroots. With my creative abilities and the marketing skills that I can learn at ISB, I believe I can deliver work that creates real impact and puts Indian brands on the map.
It’s the mindset of growth that keeps me going, learning tennis at 26 years of age and playing it competitively, participating in marathons and making my entire family do it too, and leading trekking groups at 16,000 ft through the road less travelled.

My concern is my 70% in Class 12. While I’ve performed well academically otherwise (93% in Class 10, 8.5 CGPA, Grade A at XIC), I’m worried about how much this will affect my ISB application. As a non-engineering applicant, I’m targeting a GMAT Focus score of around 695 to strengthen my profile.

I’d really appreciate an honest evaluation of my profile, especially the impact of my Class 12 score.

Hi Ruddy370,
Thanks for posting. Here is what we have concluded.
A 585 diagnostic with two years of sharp early-career experience at Zomato and Blinkit puts this file in an interesting spot, and the test score is the only thing currently holding it back from a competitive ISB or top Indian MBA conversation.

- City-level 0-1 launches at Blinkit and a pivot into national FMCG consulting before 24 is genuinely unusual progression for this stage, and it's exactly the kind of ownership story that separates files in the Indian B-school pool. The risk is that "KAM handling city-level projects" reads differently from "built the launch playbook for X cities," so the framing in essays will matter as much as the underlying work.
- On the GMAT, a 585 diagnostic translates roughly to the 580-600 band on the Classic scale, which is meaningfully below where ISB or XLRI typically pulls admits. Reaching 680+ on the Classic (approximately 635+ on the current GMAT) would put the score inside a realistic range; 700+ on the Classic gives the file real credibility. With a 3.34 GPA from NMIMS, the score needs to carry some of the academic proof of concept.
- The BBA degree will prompt a quant question from some adcoms, so strong performance on GMAT Quantitative specifically, not just total score, matters here.

At 24 with this trajectory, the strongest angle is the speed of responsibility, and a score that reflects actual ability lets that story do its job.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed. Contact us directly – submit a query here.

Hi Rishab2409,
Thanks for posting. After analysing your profile and query. Here is what we have concluded:

A 5.6 CGPA from a B.Com program gets read alongside the CA qualification, and that pairing matters more than either fact alone. ISB's admissions team sees many Indian applicants with strong professional credentials compensating for modest undergraduate grades, so the credential itself is expected; what they'll want to establish quickly is whether the work experience behind it shows client ownership and commercial judgment rather than technical execution.

- The EY role is the strongest section of this profile, and the specific work is genuinely useful: PE risk advisory, ITAT representations, and GIFT City setup are client-facing and commercially consequential. The essays need to translate these into decisions made, stakes involved, and outcomes delivered, because "assisting" and "advising" as verbs will bury exactly the kind of ownership ISB looks for.

- A score comfortably above ISB's median, likely in the 710-plus range on the Classic GMAT or approximately 705 and above on the current GMAT Focus (which corresponds to the 98th percentile), would meaningfully offset the undergraduate GPA. Below that band, the 5.6 CGPA carries more weight in the academic read than it should.

- The Perspective Club is worth including, but as written it reads as early-stage with limited demonstrable reach. If there are numbers, whether sessions held, audience size, or measurable outcomes, those convert it from a soft entry to real evidence of initiative.

- Management consulting is a well-worn goal from a CA and EY tax background, and ISB's committee will want a specific argument for why this applicant, why consulting, and why now, rather than a logical-sounding but generic transition story.

With roughly 21 months at EY and total post-qualification experience still short of three years, timing also matters. ISB's class profile skews toward five to six years of experience, so applying for Class of 2028 means submitting with perhaps two to two and a half years of full-time experience post-CA, which is on the lighter side; a year of stronger EY work and a clearer consulting thesis could make the application considerably more competitive.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed. Contact us directly – submit a query here.

Hi nikhilamuppana,
That is an interesting set of profile parameters. After evaluation, this is what we think:

At 3.3 years of experience, you're sitting just inside ISB's typical range, but close enough to the lower boundary that your GMAT score carries more weight here than it would for someone at 5 years.

- On the current GMAT Focus scale, a 655 (approximately Classic 700-710, 90th percentile) is probably the floor for a file like yours to clear the academic screen confidently; at 645 or below, the admissions read shifts to whether the rest of the application can compensate for a below-median score, and that's a harder position to be in with 3.3 years rather than 5. Target 665 or above to give your profile room to be evaluated on its other merits.

- The stakeholder coordination across credit, risk, and operations teams is the most usable professional detail you've shared, because ISB readers want to see cross-functional influence, not just legal execution. The essays need to quantify that: deal values, number of transactions, and managed, not just the scope of tasks.

- Your law-plus-banking combination genuinely differentiates you from the IT services majority in ISB's pool; that's worth stating plainly. What it doesn't do automatically is answer why an MBA rather than a qualification that deepens legal expertise. That question will come, and a vague answer there is a real vulnerability.

- Round 1 versus Round 2 turns almost entirely on where your GMAT score lands. A strong score in time for Round 1 beats a rushed application; if the score needs more preparation, Round 2 with a 665+ is the better position.

A solid GMAT score is the one lever that opens the rest of this file for proper consideration.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed. Contact us directly – submit a query here.

Would greatly appreciate any honest feedback. Thank you!

Hi @AnushkaLakhotia,
Thanks for posting. We have evaluated your query, and here is what we found:

The NITI Aayog internship is the strongest credential in this post, and it tends to go underused precisely because applicants treat it as a line item rather than as evidence of analytical scope.

- A 7.65 CGPA from Delhi University reads differently at ISB YL than at other programmes, because YL explicitly weights leadership and early-career distinction over grades; the admissions concern shifts toward whether the internships show independent contribution rather than support-function participation, and NITI Aayog is where that case gets made or lost.
- On the gap year: ISB adcoms read a gap that followed two offer letters as a deliberate choice, which is not automatically negative, but the framing has to name what you learned or re-evaluated, not just what you attempted. A vague "competitive exam preparation" explanation invites scepticism; a specific account of what the experience clarified about your direction does not.
- For sector choice over the next two years, the more useful question is depth over breadth. Analytics, consulting, or strategy all work, but YL readers are looking for a decision you owned with some consequence attached, which a junior role in a large firm may not provide as quickly as a smaller organization where scope expands fast.
- At a 7.65, a GMAT Focus score around 685 or above (approximately 730 on the Classic scale) would give the academic signal enough room to stop being the first thing a reader notices.

The presidency of the Economics department and the GAEE research role together sketch a leadership arc that deserves more space in the application than most candidates give it.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed. Contact us directly – submit a query here.

Hi everyone,

I would really appreciate some advice regarding my profile and future plans.

I graduated in June 2025 with two offer letters from leading companies in the quick commerce industry. However, I decided to take an intentional gap year to prepare for a few competitive examinations. Unfortunately, things did not work out as planned. During this period, I also completed some cloud computing and technology-related courses whenever possible.

Now, almost a year later, I am actively looking to transition back into a full-time role. My primary concern is the one-year gap on my profile and how it may affect both job opportunities and future MBA applications.

Profile Overview

Female | 22

Academics

* Class 10: 93%
* Class 12: 97%
* BA (Hons) Economics, Delhi University (2025) – CGPA: 7.65 (First Division)

Internships

* NITI Aayog – Economics Research Intern (Feb 2025 – Apr 2025)
* InterGlobe Enterprises – Finance Intern (Jun 2024 – Jul 2024)
* Metvy – Management Intern (Sep 2023 – Nov 2023)

Leadership & Positions of Responsibility

* President / Head of Organizing Committee, Economics Department
* Technical Head, College Placement Cell
* Placement Coordinator, College Placement Cell
* Research Associate, Global Association of Economic Education India (GAEE India)

Extracurriculars

* Participation in 2-3 social impact and community service initiatives
* Case competition 1-2
* Event management and leadership roles throughout college

Given my profile, I would love to hear your thoughts on the following:

1. What are my chances of securing admission to ISB PGP YL?
2. How would you evaluate my profile overall?
3. What are the biggest gaps or weaknesses that I should work on over the next 1–2 years?
4. For someone targeting ISB in the future, would experience in analytics, consulting, research, strategy, or startups be the most valuable?
5. Considering my relatively average undergraduate CGPA, what GMAT/GRE score should I aim for to strengthen my application?

I would be grateful for any candid feedback or suggestions. Thank you!

Profile Evaluation — ISB / IIM 1-Year MBA
I am looking for an honest assessment of my profile for ISB PGP and other top Indian 1-year MBA programs, particularly IIM Ahmedabad PGPX / IIM Lucknow IPMX and similar programs.
Profile
  • Male Engineer
  • Age: 27
  • BE in Electrical & Electronics Engineering — Gujarat Technological University
  • Graduation: 2019
  • Undergraduate GPA: 3.8/4.0
  • MS in Electrical & Computer Engineering (Power & Energy Systems) — Arizona State University
  • MS graduation: 2021
  • MS GPA: 3.21/4.0
Moved back from US this year and Currently in India and preparing for GMAT while on a career break
Work Experience
I will have approximately 4.5+ years of full-time professional experience by the time of application, with experience across EV charging, power electronics, BESS/PCS and microgrid applications. My primary interest is a 1-year residential MBA in India, particularly:
  • ISB PGP
  • IIM Ahmedabad PGPX
  • IIM Lucknow IPMX
  • Other comparable top Indian 1-year MBA programs
I am particularly interested in understanding my competitiveness for Round 2 / the relevant application cycle.
My longer-term objective is to move from my current technical/application-engineering background into higher-level product, project, strategy, business or leadership roles within the energy/EV/BESS/clean-tech ecosystem, rather than abandoning the industry entirely.

Questions I Would Like an Expert to Evaluate
1. Overall profile strength
How would you rate my profile for ISB PGP and IIM A PGPX/IIM L IPMX compared with the typical engineer applicant?
Would you consider my EV charging + BESS + PCS + microgrid experience a meaningful differentiator, or is it still broadly comparable to the typical engineering applicant pool?
2. Academic profile
How much weight should I expect the following to carry?
  • BE EEE — GTU — 3.8/4.0
  • MS ECE/Power & Energy Systems — ASU — 3.21/4.0
Does the relatively lower MS GPA create a significant concern despite the stronger undergraduate academic record?
How much can a strong GMAT score offset the MS GPA?
3. GMAT target
Given my profile, what would you consider:
  • Minimum reasonable score
  • Competitive score
  • Strong score
  • Ideal/stretch score
Specifically, would you view 650, 670, 680, 700, 720+ differently for my profile?
Would it be worth delaying application to improve the GMAT substantially?
4. Work experience
How differentiated is my experience in:
EV charging + BESS + PCS + microgrids + power electronics + customer/application engineering
compared with the much larger pool of software/IT/mechanical/electrical engineers?
Does the energy-transition/EV/BESS domain provide meaningful differentiation for ISB/IIM admissions?
7. Biggest weakness
If you were evaluating my application today, what would you identify as the single biggest weakness or risk?
Would it be:
  • GMAT
  • Academic record
  • Limited formal people management
  • ~4–4.5 years experience
  • Career transitions
  • Lack of quantified business impact
  • Something else?
8. Biggest differentiator
Conversely, what would you consider the strongest differentiator in my profile?
Is it my combination of:
Quote:
Electrical engineering + US MS + EV charging + BESS/PCS + microgrids + customer/application engineering
or is there something else I should emphasize?
9. Application story
What would be the strongest way to position my career story?
I don't want the application to sound like:
Quote:
"I am an engineer and want an MBA to move into management."
How could I credibly position the transition from technical energy infrastructure/application engineering toward product/business/strategy/leadership roles in the energy-transition ecosystem?
10. School-wise competitiveness
Assuming strong essays, recommendations and interview preparation, how would you assess my chances at:
  • ISB PGP
  • IIM Ahmedabad PGPX
  • IIM Lucknow IPMX
  • Other comparable 1-year Indian MBA programs
at different GMAT levels?

Hi,

Your profile has a clear and relevant niche, with experience across EV charging, BESS/PCS, microgrids and power electronics giving you a differentiated energy-transition story.

The 3.8/4.0 BE GPA is a strong academic positive, and the US MS adds further credibility to your academic profile.

For the GMAT, I would target 675+ for ISB. For the IIM 1-year programs, anything in the 655+ range can put you in a competitive position.
Your biggest gap is likely demonstrating business impact, leadership and career progression rather than coming across as purely a technical/application engineer.

I would position your story around using your technical and customer-facing experience in the energy sector to move into product, strategy and business leadership roles within the energy-transition ecosystem.

I come from a similar background, so I can understand the technical-to-business transition you’re trying to make and how to present it naturally.
Also, if you complete 5 years of work experience by March 31, 2027, you can target IIM B and IIM C as well.

Happy to discuss your profile in detail

Hi,

The CMA + 7 years of manufacturing finance combination gives you a strong operational finance profile, particularly because you have worked closely with plants, costing, incentives and business decisions rather than only financial reporting.Improve your GRE by 3–4 points to be more competitive for IIMA/IIMB, and by 6–7 points for ISB.
