MBA helps accelerate what would be linear or challenging path without MBA. However you need to have specific choice. Finanace is very broad. What do you want do post MBA ?

W.r.t GMAT/GRE as suggested either works depending on where your starting point is better

Is there any difference in placements, pedagogy and culture between Mohali and hyd? Also I heard that allotment of campus by the adcom team and we do not have a say in that.

this is a pretty solid profile, especially for someone targeting manufacturing/energy and broader business leadership. the cma rank 36 + 7 years of plant finance experience is a strong combination, and the $3M savings + $121M incentive work give you some good numbers to build the application around.

the GRE is probably the main thing i'd look at now. 319 is decent, but for top schools I'd try to push it to 325+, especially since your profile is finance-heavy and you have 7 years of experience.

your biggest advantage is that you're not just a finance/reporting guy, you've actually worked close to operations, procurement, costing and plant decisions. that's a much better MBA story than simply saying you want to move from finance to strategy.

I'd also make sure your goals aren't too broad. Strategic finance → business leadership in manufacturing/energy feels much more credible than listing strategy, GM, sustainability, etc. as separate directions. Overall, definitely a profile worth taking to good MBA programs.

you have a pretty interesting profile, especially because the EV/BESS/microgrid experience gives you a much clearer industry story than the usual engineer profile. the US MS + technical depth also helps.

the biggest thing i’d focus on is GMAT + showing business impact. the 3.21 MS GPA isn’t ideal, but your 3.8 undergrad GPA and a strong test score can balance it out.

roughly, i’d think of it like this:
  • 650: possible, but you’d be making the rest of the application work very hard
  • 670: decent
  • 680–700: competitive range
  • 720+: very strong and gives you much more breathing room
for ISB, i’d personally aim for 700+, especially since you’re competing with a lot of strong engineers. For IIM A PGPX/L IPMX, your work-ex range is quite relevant, but the overall profile + test score will still matter.

your biggest differentiator isn't simply "EEE + MS + EV." It's the fact that you've worked close to the actual energy-transition infrastructure—charging, storage, microgrids, power systems, and customers. That's a story worth building around.

and don't position the MBA as "i want to leave engineering and become a manager." I'd frame it more like: I've developed deep technical expertise in an industry that's scaling rapidly, and now I want to move closer to product, commercial and strategic decisions that determine how these technologies actually get deployed at scale.

also, quantify whatever business impact you can revenue, savings, projects, customers, deployment scale, cost reduction, timelines, etc. That will probably strengthen your profile more than adding another random certification.

Work Experience
I will have approximately 4.5+ years of full-time professional experience by the time of application, with experience across EV charging, power electronics, BESS/PCS and microgrid applications.My primary interest is a 1-year residential MBA in India, particularly:
  • ISB PGP
  • IIM Ahmedabad PGPX
  • IIM Lucknow IPMX
  • Other comparable top Indian 1-year MBA programs
I am particularly interested in understanding my competitiveness for Round 2 / the relevant application cycle.

Does the relatively lower MS GPA create a significant concern despite the stronger undergraduate academic record?
How much can a strong GMAT score offset the MS GPA?

I have a pharmaceutical background for research analyst ( lab work) no impact as an individual could be explained. Preparing for GMAT as I am interested for pharma global business development role and targeting ISB.
Mostly trying for second round, what score should I target?
I have 4.8 yrs of experience, currently on a career break, I do have good academic scores but when it comes for experience impact- I do not have much to say even though worked with Zydus Healthcare Limited, Torrent Research Centre and Sun pharma Industries Limited as a QA and ADL person.

The fact it not that *You don’t have much to say* instead it is that *you don’t know how to say things that you can and you should*

That’s the gap that people like me who provide admission consulting bridge

Once you share your story, I am pretty sure we can find your personal story in it even though impacts were created by the teams.

You must target 645+ as you are not from traditional background. ISB has specialisation from the industry (health management) you belong so you will be prioritised if your score is apt.

Since you are starting so a more pertinent question for you is to choose between GMAT and GRE. Based on your ability to handle it, make this decision wisely.

The ISB application does ask for the candidate's preferred campus, but it doesn't look like the candidate's choice has much bearing on the campus that ISB allocates to the candidate;).
