Hi,

Had a question regarding the LORs.

Can the recommender be a former supervisor/colleague i.e. someone who supervised/mentored me at my current firm but has now moved on to a different firm?

Thanks

Ideally no. When you mention your recommenders, you also provide their official email id, whose purpose for the most part is to verify that the referer currently works in your organization.

1000% !!! This is super common, maybe even the norm, especially if you want to keep your mba plans secret out of concern if my will adversely impact your trajectory at the firm. You might include it in the optional why you didn’t have your boss do it and in almost all cases confidentiality suffices except *maybe* if you are in strategy or management consulting where an MBA is the norm

In that case, what if I am in a boutique consultancy firm and is almost 2nd in command? Then I wouldn't want to inform my superior. I can use one of my clients as a recommender? Does the adcom take it negatively if the recommender is not from the same organisation?

No Re:same organization that’s fine, really prioritize the content they will share ( anecdotes Re: leadership and problem solving) over other things. I am a bit curious if asking the client to be quiet is ethical. Sometimes there’s a concern Re conflict of interest with that. But if it’s the only option outside of revealing your mba plans maybe. If you have a good EC accolade that’s also a good path, or an internal client you’ve helped in a material way

In the application, LBS asks which other schools we’ve applied to. Anyone have any idea on how this data is used?

Hi stoned,

Thank you for sharing your profile. First, I would like to congratulate you on backing a stellar 750 in your GMAT. That’s quite exceptional, so kudos on that! Coming to your GPA, it would help if you added your overall GPA. Additionally, I would also suggest adding a bit more about your overall statistics and information about any additional courses, certifications, and academic accolades, along with your GMAT score, to provide an overall boost on your academic front.

On the work front, six years of experience and being a senior manager definitely account for your career progression, ability to excel, and technical prowess! I believe you wouldn’t be short on stellar leadership examples and would surely have instances where you worked above and beyond your role for the benefit of your company! The biggest edge will be presenting these activities strategically and ensuring they don’t go unnoticed by the adcoms. Moreover, I would suggest adding any relevant international exposure, which would certainly provide an additional boost.

Coming to your ECAs, I suggest adding any relevant community or volunteering work you had and briefly stating them. For instance, I suggest you go through our article on Significance of ECAs for MBA Application, to understand the importance of drafting exemplary ECAs essays!

Overall, you have a decent profile with a strong GMAT score. However, I feel it’s still brief at some points! It would really help if you could be more specific in your long-term goals so that we can help align them with the school’s values! Add some stellar leadership examples to start an interesting conversation with the Adcoms! I would like to know more about the key aspects of your work experience, long-term goals, and overall profile so we can properly gauge your chances at top B-schools. If you’d like, we are happy to get on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and your further chances to the top B-schools. So feel free to book a free session with us at your convenience.

Hello everyone, I am filling out the LBS application form. I have only worked only in one company till now, but with multiple promotions/title changes. Any suggestion on how to showcase the title changes? Should I add the title changes in the previous employment? Anyone has any experience with it

If you’re allowed to make separate entries for each job do that, if not you’ll just have to place the one entry but then in your résumé make sure to break out the roles to show the progression.

Hi, do we need to report our GMAT score to LBS while applying or it can be done later at the time of admission. I did not select LBS during my GMAT exam, hence wondering about the same.

Hi, I have a doubt...

I am an entrepreneur so I don’t know how to enter my salary/company revenue details as nothing is fixed. Do we need to show tax returns to show proof later during verification?
