Waitlisted. really stung since Ross was my top choice, especially given that they've now got a stem designation. In any case, lets see. Fingers crossed that the waitlist moves!

There are a few success stories from the past threads in the previous years. Some people have improved her application, some sent in letters of support, gotten promotions and sent updates to the admissions committee. Some have re-taken the GMAT in the last ditch effort and some have done absolutely nothing. A number of them from all of those groups has gotten in :-o

There are a few YouTube videos about the waitlist. You can find them in the first post. Let me dig around and see if I can find something from the past years.

I assume you interviewed with them? Will have to see how R2 goes and how the applicant volume progresses.... WL is schools hedging their bets.

However I would def look at applying R2 to other schools since it seems you have to wait for the R2 decisions anyway.

In my opinion, if you were waitlisted after an interview, it is still very positive. I would first check if the basics of your applications are in good shape (GMAT, work experience etc.) and figure out room to improve.

A promotion, an extra letter of recommendation or a note talking about new outreach you have made are all fair game here!

And what would be your suggestion for someone who is waitlisted after an interview?

And what would be your suggestion for someone who is waitlisted after an interview?

My advice (the one you quoted) is for WL-ed candidates who did interview.

Do you mean for people who did not interview?

It is hard to get an admit if you are waitlisted without an interview. I would then focus my efforts on securing an interview with the R1 folks. Keep in touch with admissions and try to understand how you can move the needle. My guess is the biggest win for you would be something like a stellar increase in your test scores.

I was waitlisted after the interview.
Would you recommend I reach out to Meredith directly and seek feedback? I had been in touch with her during the application process. By an extra letter of recommendation, do you mean from an alum/current student or a professional one?

I know this is a hard process - so I wrote a short something for all you folks on the waitlist. Hope it answers some questions!

You should reach out to her at some point. Maybe wait out a few days, and definitely wait for the waitlist instructions to come in.

Yep, I interviewed with them and did the team exercise as well. I've got a Stern interview lined up as well, so preparing for that and learning from my mistakes here.

When it comes to letters of support, who generally sends those in? Would it be another sort of recommendation letter?

A little support could come from somebody who carries weight with the admissions committee. This could be a current student you have networked with Orono I’m now that you know well or networked with. (This is why it’s important and valuable that you engage with current students during the application process). It can also come from a high-value business executive or basically anyone at admissions committee would give credibility to.

souvik101990 - any more thoughts here?

bb - all valid arguments. It could be anyone really but I would focus on these four in the order of priority:

1. An alum that you have directly worked with (former supervisor or senior manager/leader in your company) - this is hard and you have to be really lucky to have someone like this.
2. A senior leader in your company who may not have been to the school you are applying to but graduated from a top tier MBA program.
3. Alums that you have networked with throughout the admission process.
4. Current students that you have networked with throughout the admission process.

Is it a bad sign if you were waitlisted without an interview?
Does this answer change if you attended one of their diversity weekends (Womens or Minority Events) and had significant interaction with AdCom?

Would a letter from a current student etc. still be helpful?

Thanks souvik101990 and bb!

Don't have any alums I have directly worked with, however my director would definitely be willing to submit a letter of support. He hasn't gone to a top tier MBA school though. Looks like I have a lot of research and thinking ahead...
