Hello everyone

Had my skype interview yest... The interviewer was very cordial and she made me feel very comfortable... The interview lasted for 30 mins ... Here are some of the questions asked..

1. Tell me about ur professional background
2. Why MBA now
3. Why Tepper
4. Give an instance where you had to deal with people from culturally different background.. How did u deal with it?
5. Give an instance when you had to deal with a difficult co worker or client
6. Give an instance where you felt you were less successful as a leader
7. How do your colleagues remember you for any one particular achievement of yours.. An instance where you made a huge impact..
8. How do u try to bridge the gap between the skills u have and the skills some one has who is more knowledgable than u?
9. Career goals
10. Do u have any questions to ask?

No questions on resume or application essays.. She mentioned in the beginning of the interview itself that she did not go through my app..
Interview was very conversational..
Just be confident and give your best :):)

Thanks myth and the rest who have described their interview experiences.

I have a general question about MBA interviews. How should one answer a question in case they have not had any experience in that regard.

eg. Give an instance where you have had to deal with conflict. How did you handle it?

If I have never had such an experience, what is the best way to tackle such questions?

Dude, you can't be serious. There's no way you have never dealt with conflict. Have you ever disagreed with someone? Have you ever been in an argument? Have you ever been asked to do something that you didn't think you should do?

Get creative, it doesn't have to be an example from work (although it should be whenever possible). If you answer that you have never dealt with conflict, you're interviewer will think you are unaware and naive.

Interesting point. I figured such questions were solely directed towards professional experience. I know better now.

My application was not reviewed until 17 October because my documents were incomplete. I would not be the right guy to benchmark for first or second wave of interview.

Hi shavak,

Make sure that you go through the interview questions asked.
I have posted a link a few posts above.

Then try to fit in your stories in the form of the questions. You can have one story for multiple questions, but presented in a different way.
Also, keep one or two situations spare so that if you have used one in one question, you have the story ready for the next question.

This will put you at ease at the time of the interview.

Interview scheduled for 10/19!! Time to start preparing.
Hello wcf5016,
Can you please share your interview experience? I am sure you must have rocked it! :)

First off, sorry it took so long to share my experience. I was actually able to schedule an in-person interview. I called and explained that I live close by but would be out of town for work when they had face to face interviews available. They were very helpful and were able to accommodate my request. They said the in-person interviews are scheduled in November because that's when they are able to give tours as well, and they expect most visitors will want to see the campus and sit in on a class. I've already visited so that wasn't an issue for me.

To the interview...

The meeting was very conversational. I interviewed with two admissions members but one just took notes and didn't ask any questions. The following questions were asked.

1.) What do you do at your current job? (Have held the same position, without promotion, since graduation)
2.) Describe a time when you had to deal with conflict, how did you handle it?
3.) Describe a time when you worked with someone from a different culture, what was challenging/ what did you learn from the experience?
4.) Describe a time when you worked with someone who didn't pull their weight, how did you handle it?
- For this question I told the truth which was that I picked up the slack and didn't confront the coworker. I admitted that this was a weakness and they asked how I would handle it in retrospect. I said I would have asked the person to take on a task without directly calling them out on their laziness. I think if you admit a weakness but can back it up with either A.) How you've improved or B.) How you WOULD improve, it shows self awareness and they seemed to like that.
5.) Describe a time when you had to rely on others?
6.) Why an MBA?
7.) Why Tepper?

Then time to ask a few questions of your own. Interview lasted almost exactly 30 minutes.

Hope that helps. I was very pleased with the overall interview experience. I think I was the first in-person interview they gave, which is pretty cool. :-D

Would love to hear from others who've interviewed! I guess all we can do is wait now.

BTW, the interviewer mentioned that she hadn't seen my application, other than my resume. They do this so the interview is judged independently of the rest of the application.

Good luck everyone! I can't wait to hear all the good news come December 15th!
