I had my interview last evening with Mark Lockwood . It was very brief discussion. Lasted for only 19 mins ! :o
Not sure if the Illinois keeps the interview short and concise. As far as i can recall the whole discussion went smooth and don't think i screwed up the interview either. This has left me perplexed.

Hi Farhan, Is this a 1st Round Interview? Can you pls share your interview experience.

Yes it was 1st round interview. The questions were the standard ones.

Little introduction about me- Was asked to emphasise on professional aspect.
Motivation behind doing MBA ? Questions on career goals.
Greatest Strength.
Why UIUC?
The discussion ended with me asking few questions.

Thanks farhan

Hi guys, I received the interview invite today. Since on campus interview will be preferred, I guess I will use my last vacation day and have the interview on campus on the 22nd (confirming with the Adcom if they are open on that day even though the scheduling system shows yes).
I have a question regarding the interview process though; in the email it said "We will conduct two-part interviews during your campus visit - one with Admissions and a second interview with Career Services. Each interview should take approximately 30 minutes." However, I don't see people emphasis the difference between these two parts and what to expect from these two parts. Can anyone finished the interview clarify this for me?

Below is the interview information I found from the threads from the past two years:
"The only questions he asked me directly were,
1. Tell me about your professional experience
2. What is your leadership style?
3. Other schools that I am applying to

If I have to list down the topics we talked about, the list is below
1. Strengths
2. What will I bring to the Illinois community
3. How do I stand out
4. Activities I do during free time"

"-why illinois mba?
-why mba now?
-what can you contribute to the illinois mba?
-what is your weakness as a leader?
-tell me about a challenge you faced and how you overcame it?
-what other schools are you applying to?
-where do you see yourself in 10 years?
- etc
"

"1)Goals
2)why UIUC
3)What I am doing right now. How my skills align to that position
4)Weakness - Strengths
5)roles taken in the team
6) How do I motivate my team
7)Hobbies
8) Anything not covered in resume/application that I would like to highlight.
9)Questions to Adcom
"

The careers services interview is a discussion, so there is no need for you to 'prepare' for it.

In other news, I heard that the adcom is cutting down on the class size, again. As you can recall, the class size was once 120, then 110, then 100, then recently it was 80-82 for two yrs, and now i hear the class of 2018 will be cut down to 60-65. I would say that, reducing class size means the admission cut-offs become very high, a person who might have got into the class of 2012, cant get into the class of 2018 now.

what does this mean? turn in your application early! The class will be full, very soon.

For what it is worth, I do not think that that is a bad sign. This is a program that is very very concerned with fit. If you feel like it went smooth that is probably a good thing. This is not an Adcom that wants to trick you. I wish you much luck and hope the interview was as effective as it was short :)!

Hi Guys!

Any Round 1 applicant who received an admit? I was interviewed on 8th December but still haven't received any notification. Kinda nervous. When does the holiday season begin or has it started?

sfarhan
My interview was also pretty short(15-20 mins). In my opinion, you just cannot infer anything from the length of the interview. But Mark answered my questions pretty patiently and did not rush with his answers.

Hi,

I am a female applicant from India with 4 years work ex. I am planning to submit my application by Jan 15th deadline.

Area of interest is in Human Resources management and International business.

What are the chances of being invited for an interview if i submit application for R3?

Also, Is it mandatory to submit financial documents with application? I am planning to apply for educational loan and scholarship. But a letter from bank can be obtained only after i get that admission decision.

Please help

The adcoms are on holiday, until Jan 5. But I would think that if they (=very very few people!) would want to make a decision, they can make it regardless of the date or being on holiday. So, hang in there....they will send you a decision soon.

1. You probably want to turn in your application, as fast as you can. They have scholarships for women, so in order to get one of those....turn that application in. Fast!
2. Few women apply to business school. So, your chances are pretty good even when you apply in R3, heck...even R7 if they had one.
3. The question of financials has been answered a million times. Please look up the UIUC MBA 2014, 2015, 2013 threads here on gmat for answers to this question and many others....

Hi Guys!

Any Round 1 applicant with an update on the Application status?? I was interviewed on December 8th but still no update. Should I treat it as a reject and move on? Any help appreciated!

In with .

So I submit my application around mid December and interviewed on the 22nd right before the Christmas time. The Adcom members were nice enough to hold the interview for me at that time. The Adcoms I interviewed with were extremely nice, and the interview was very relaxing (I truly enjoyed talking to them). The career discussion was fairly short (around 20mins), and the interview was around 40mins. For the interview, there were just basic questions such as why MBA, why now, why UIUC, etc. For the career discussion, we basically went over the career goals which I would like to achieve and some working background. I have to admit that was really nothing to prepare for....

As voyager mentioned, the UIUC is cutting down class size to 65ish for the coming year - More efficient use of resource (one session instead of two session because of the classroom size) and achieve a higher MBA ranking for the coming years. Also, the program is trying to focus on technology management side, so UIUC is probably not the best choice for you, if you want to concentrate on fields such as IB.

So, best luck to everyone.

Relax. The adcom has been on holiday since Dec 22, they just returned to work last week on Jan 4th. They should be updating you soon, so hang in there. Good luck!
