Good Morning everyone,

Thanks for starting the thread EMB! I am a Marine Officer and Cobra Pilot with 8+ years applying this fall. I have a 700 GMAT (retaking in two weeks) with a stellar 2.96 GPA. We will see if I can overcome that lil guy.

Tgt Schools: Duke, UVA, Cornell, UNC

I look forward to hearing others experiences and sharing mine.

Hey all, I managed to miss this entire thread last year when going through the application process, I guess I was too focused on the school specific threads. I applied ED to Columbia last year and withdrew all other applications after I got in so if anyone has any questions about the ED process or Columbia in general just let me know.

Hello all,

I have been accepted to IE business school for their International MBA in January 2016.

I have a 3.8 Political Science GPA from a good state school, and my GRE scores are 93% verbal, 56% quant, and 90% on the essay. My question to all of you, am I shooting myself in the foot by not waiting to see if I can get accepted to a US business school later in the year? I'm 100% post 9/11 GI bill eligible and I'm looking at paying at least 23k out of pocket to study in Madrid.

I'm considering putting IE on hold and retesting for the GRE. Realistically, I think I can get my quant score to the 70th percentile. Thanks for your help!

Thought i'd post in here to join in the discussion! My target is Fall 2017 but I've learned a lot from reading through the past threads.

Marine Officer (artillery) with 4 years active duty service. Left USMC in February 2015. Target schools are Booth, Darden, Yale, Fuqua, Owen, McDonough (dual degree MSFS/MBA). Undergrad GPA 3.5

Currently studying for the GMAT and I plan on taking it in spring 2016. Depending on how I score, I may apply to all the top 10 schools because why not.

Well, I can take a stab at that...

Applications are time-consuming, not cheap (expect to pay $250 each for the schools that don't give military waivers), and stressful. You're much better off submitting 5 or 6 very focused applications to the schools you really care about, rather than submitting 10 applications that amount to 80% efforts because you didn't anticipate how much work they would be. And you've also gotta factor in recommendations -- most schools ask for 2 of them so you'd need 4-5 recommenders at the ready since it would be pretty rude to ask the same 2 people to write 10 recommendations each. Wrangling your recommenders and ensuring that they submit everything on time is another hassle that you probably haven't considered. It was hard enough for me when I applied to 5 schools, so multiply that by a factor of 3 or 4 once you include the fact that deadlines for schools in a particular round are typically in pretty tight window.

Then you have to raise the question of why you actually want to apply to a given school..."because it's a top 10 school" isn't a very good answer. Where some magazine or blog says a school is ranked isn't a good indicator of whether that school is a good for for you personally, professionally, or culturally. Though I ended up going to HBS, I can think of several #20ish schools that would have been better fits for me than a few of the #10ish schools that I also considered.

Good advice. I am going to have it narrowed down to 5-6 schools. If I manage to score high enough on the GMAT, I am going to apply to HBS, Stanford, and Wharton no matter what.

I'm sorry - but this ranking is absolute garbage. I don't know what their methodology is, but the best schools for vets are the best schools for everyone else.

There are numerous schools in the Top 20 that have full 9/11 GI Bill Coverage (Darden, Ross, Cornell, Duke, Anderson, Haas) and some others that cover about 90% (Kellogg, Tuck).

Agreed--I motion to have those rankings stricken from the record.

I can't imagine what MilitaryTimes based the rankings on, unless it was some combination of high acceptance rate for military and/or willingness to offer money to veterans.

It also appears that not a single top 30ish program aside from USC, aTm, Ohio State, and Indiana bothered to respond to their survey, which is pretty telling.

Exactly. I am not sure what they are factoring in that would make the list for vets any different than the list for everyone else. The GI bill makes the ROI for any school more attractive, but I would imagine other than reordering a bit for yellow ribbon benefits the top 25 schools for vets should largely look like the list of top 25 schools in general.

Navy P-3C Orion NFO here. Just submitted my R1 for HBS. Looking at HBS, Darden, Mcdonough and Smith for my application list. Only applying to HBS this year and the rest next year depending on the outcome of course. Good luck to everyone especially all those working hard to get those HBS R1 apps complete and submitted by noon tomorrow!

I know. It doesn't help that I keep getting awesome fake-out emails where the subject is "School invites you..." and then the body of the email says "to attend an information session."

Not cool when you're waiting to hear about interviews.
