Hi,

Lowest of two in ab will be 2*-2=-4...
To find if 1 is there, we have to find if the higher range is above 1..
The other three possibilities for highest ab are x*(-2), 2y and xy....
A) So if x is -ive, x*-2 will be POSITIVE and > or = 2.....Ans will be YES
B) if y is POSITIVE 2*y will be >or =2....Ans will be again YES

Let's see the statements..
(1) x=1...
x as positive ALONE does not answer the Q, it will require y to be POSITIVE..
Insufficient

(2) x<y..
If y is positive, answer from (B) will be YES..
If y is NEGATIVE or 0, x will also be NEGATIVE, so from (A), and will be YES..
Thus sufficient

B
