Hi EMPOWERgmatRichC ,

Attached ESR report. I have modified it to remove my personal details.

Please find my response below:

1) How long have you studied?
It has been 3-4 months, while studying for GMAT. Though I believe it was never concrete, I just referred materials here and there on internet and practiced.

2) What materials have you used?
I basically used Official guide and official guide Verbal review to practice RC,CR, and SC. For sentence correction I referred Manhattan SC guide to brush up my grammar skills .
For Quant I directly bumped into problem solving :) and used Manhattan mobile app. It has very good collection of advance quant problem.

3) What is your overall goal score?
My goal is to achieve 700+

4) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
I m planning to apply for round 2 (early January deadlines).

5) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
My target schools are MIT, Tuck, Berkeley's, and Kellogg and I believe GMAT is the major obstacle in achieving that.

Regards,
Shashank

Hi Shashank,

First of all, congratulations on scoring a perfect 51 in Quant. This basically proves that given the right strategy you should do well in the Verbal section as well.
Now, I have gone through your ESR and read above about your preparation methodology for the Verbal section. You have taken a book focussed approach and have referred to multiple resources for your preparation due to which you haven’t been able to form a strategy / uniform way to approach questions in the Verbal section. While you have done that in Quant and you have seen the results, you haven't been able to replicate the same process for the Verbal section. This is where you need guidance and we can help you here.

How much do you need to score to get to 700+
Given a 50 in Quant (although you are at 51 right now), you would need at least a 37 in the Verbal section. Seeing your current performance, you need to improve in all the 3 sections to get to a V37. Go through the GMAT Planner tool to check how much you need to improve in the 3 sections(SC/CR/RC) to get to a score of 37+ in Verbal.

Course Recommended
The Verbal Online course perfectly suits your requirement. It is self-paced, available on demand, includes all our e-Learning courses in SC, CR, RC and is the most successful course on the GMAT Club.
The best part about the course is its data driven approach. Apart from a highly interactive platform on which the course is based, which provides you feedback for every 30 minutes of learning, you also get access to Scholaranium(highest rated test tool). This tool provides you excellent analytics helping you find your core strengths and weaknesses and also tell you why you falter in a particular area – is it because of the conceptual knowledge or a gap application of concept/process. GMAT Planner along with Scholaranium can help save you 50+ hours in your overall prep time and help you score 70 points higher.
Verbal Online requires 80 hours of effort and most people complete the course in about 30 days.

Hi Sachin and Shashank, congratulations on a perfect Q51 for both of you!

Since SC comes out as an area of improvement, thought I would highlight that our sentence correction book Sentence Correction Nirvana is perhaps the only book that offers a score improvement guarantee, and is especially designed for non-native speakers.

After reading the book twice (yes! it's an academic book, and so must be read twice in all seriousness, to reinforce the concepts), you will start looking forward to solving SC questions!

The book is available on Flipkart and Amazon.in. You might want to refer to these sites, to also read testimonials of how readers have benefited.

See here how Mohit, who scored 750 on GMAT, vouches for our book.

If you want to sample a chapter before deciding to go ahead with our book, please PM me your mail-id (along with the chapter that you would like to sample) and I will be happy to send that chapter to you by mail. In addition, the entire Grammar section of the book is also available for free preview at pothi.
