Hello, adyg14. I know that I was not named among the other Experts, but perhaps my view will help you, all the same. I do not recommend taking any mocks apart from the official practice tests, at least not for diagnostic purposes. The question and scoring algorithm works differently, and many attempts by third parties to mimic the language and general feel of an official test fall well short of that standard. Manhattan Prep mocks, for instance, have a reputation for being difficult, and taking them can have a negative effect on your pacing strategies, not to mention your confidence. As you might expect, scores from these mocks often turn out lower than those by the same test-taker on official mocks. This is not to say that practicing all third-party questions is worthless, just that if you want results you can place trust in, only official practice tests will do, at least in my view.

Good luck with your studies.

- Andrew

Dear GMAT Experts,

Can you please suggest any mocks similar to actual GMAT apart from official mocks ? I want these to improve my pacing , concentration during exam.

bb KarishmaB GMATNinja

If you retake all official mocks once, you should have enough to practice. There may be some repeat questions and your score may be somewhat inflated but overall, sticking with official tests would be better for your prep. If you still insist on taking mocks of some test prep for pacing purposes, go with any though I would be vary of any ‘takeaways’ from the verbal questions.

Hi adyg14,

You really do not need to take more than the 6 MBA.com practice exams. Also, are you using prep resources that allow for timed practice?

Hi adyg14,

Each CAT/mock is really a 'measuring device' - when used correctly, it will give you a realistic score and help define your strengths and weaknesses, but it will NOT help you to fix any of those weaknesses. To raise your scores and improve your pacing, you have to learn the necessary Tactics and put in the proper practice and repetitions. The CAT will show you whether your studies are helping you to improve or not. In addition, the process of taking (and reviewing) a CAT requires a significant amount of energy and effort - and takes time to 'recover' from. This is one of the reasons why you typically should not take more than 1 CAT per week.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

Hi ScottTargetTestPrep ,
I gave 4 official mocks , but I had done too many official questions before so I am getting inflated results and I am weak in pacing.

Hi adyg14,

The official mocks are the most reliable ones as they are believed to be the closest to the actual GMAT. So ideally, you should stick with those.

Regarding pacing yourself on the test, you may find this helpful:

Why don't you just practice doing timed problem sets?

Hey Scot, ScottTargetTestPrep

I think I am lacking in concentrating for 3 Hours during my exam . So I am not confident whether this would help me in improving my pace and concentration .

What about elongating your study sessions? For how long do you typically study?
