Hello, shan324002. I agree with everything zhanbo said. In fact, you could probably hit a 50 in Quant in a week or two with a little more familiarity with GMAT™-style questions. To get that perfect score, though, you will likely have to put in a flawless performance, and that is going to take a lot of practice. You will have to systematically work through the topics covered on the test and address any weaknesses you may have in any area. The exam is quite good at exploiting weaknesses, which is why many people struggle to see gains beyond a certain point. Add to this the fact that on any given day, you can know how to solve a problem but make some careless error, skip over a given condition in a DS problem, or misinterpret a question altogether, and you can appreciate why a perfect Quant score is challenging, even for those who possess a facility with numbers and mathematical reasoning.

As for the GMAT™/GRE® split, some schools, including HBS, require applicants to submit one score or the other--not both--and then it is up to the applicant to decide which score better reflects his or her abilities. I agree that the GMAT™ has a little more currency for business school application purposes, in terms of sheer numbers, but the GRE® has gained a lot of ground.

My major concern is sentence correction, I need some fundamental building resources for SC .
Hi shan324002! Since you mention SC as your specific area of concern, thought I would mention that our sentence correction book Sentence Correction Nirvana is perhaps the only book that offers a score improvement guarantee, and is especially designed for non-native speakers.

After reading the book twice (yes! it's an academic book, and so must be read twice in all seriousness, to reinforce the concepts), you will start looking forward to solving SC questions!

The book is available on Flipkart and Amazon.in. You might want to refer to these sites, to also read testimonials of how readers have benefited.

See here how Mohit, who scored 750 on GMAT, vouches for our book.

If you want to sample a chapter before deciding to go ahead with our book, please PM me your mail-id (along with the chapter that you would like to sample) and I will be happy to send that chapter to you by mail. In addition, the entire Grammar section of the book is also available for free preview at pothi.

Hi shan324002,

To start, this 690/Q49 is a fantastic initial CAT Score (the Average Score on the Official GMAT hovers around 550 most years) - so you are likely already a strong critical thinker. A 750+ represents approximately the 98th percentile, so clearly most GMATers will never score that high; as such, there's no way to say for sure how long it might take you to get to the point that you could could consistently score at that level. That having been said, many Test Takers hit their 'peak' scores after spending 3 months of consistent, guided study - and if you have given yourself 6 months of potential study time, then that's great!

Most Business Schools accept either the GMAT or the GRE as part of the application process, but you would NOT need to take both Exams to apply. If you're considering the GRE, then you should confirm that the Schools that you plan to apply to actually do accept the GRE (since it would be unfortunate to prep for that Exam, then find out later that your first-choice Program didn't actually accept that Score).

Before I can offer you any advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your timeline and your goals:

1) What study materials do you currently have access to?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
3) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi Shan324002,

First off, great work with the 690! Given that you have 6 months to study, as long as you follow a linear and structured study plan, I think that you can make a sizable improvement in your GMAT score. Regarding whether to take the GMAT or GRE, either test is suitable for business school, so you should take the exam that better suits your strengths. Also, submitting both GMAT and GRE scores will not be advantageous, so I recommend that you choose one exam and stick with it. Lastly, you may find it helpful to read the following articles:
