Hi!
I applied for the October 15th deadline, strongly motivated. I hope for the best, but did not receive any answer so far.
From what one can read on internet, pre-selection answers can take 1 or 2 weeks, maybe more in some cases.

I found out I moved on to the interview stage on October 23rd and found out this morning who one of my interviewers will be (still waiting on the second).

I would recommend presenting on a business topic that interests you. I presented on a country like a grade school report, and although my interviewer enjoyed it, they recommended for my next interview to either relate the presentation to doing business in the country or talking about economic benefits etc. something that would be more mba applicable.

You can’t give them what they never asked for ;)

I asked for feedback, so that’s why it was provided. You are correct though in presenting anything under the sun. I found that the interviewers were less interested in my presentation and much more interested in learning about me and why I chose HEC. When they opened it up for questions, I was almost most interrogative than they were.

It’s hard to find HEC alumni in Western US, so I was going to take full advantage of the opportunity.

You have inputs on HEC website: 10mn of presentation, about the topic of your choice. While a lot of people pick up random subject, I would recommend to present a business related subject or related to YOU, means YOUR application. Make the link, show you enthusiasm about it, and that you believe in your application/project.
If you like to tell stories, 6 slides should be great. If you are passionate about this subject, you will do it well.

As HEC says, be knowledgeable about this subject, enthusiast, train on your pace, and show you have the qualities the school looks for: passion, Innovation and personal skills.
A good strategy is to be able to give a flavor of your application with this presentation, thus enabling you to switch to the interview part naturally.

You have plenty of feedbacks on the web that can guide you. In the end, just be yourself.
