Many congratulations for getting admits in top European B-Schools. Both the schools have their own pros and cons. The choice between these two is going to be tough if you depend on the rankings, reputation, industry focus, others aspects. However, if you know what and how you want to do, it will become easier.
If I am in your place,
my first step would be to go back to HEC and ask for a scholarship in a decent way
mentioning the IMD admit. I think, the chance to get Euro 14k scholarship is high
. I hope, you will get the information quickly for final scholarship decision. Let's go to comparison:
For Short term goals - pick HEC because (according to my research)-1. Amazon picks more students from HEC
2. More companies (tech / e-commerce) offer PM roles
3. IMD does place people in Amazon but rarely to PM roles
4. You can get Internship
For Entreprenuership - pick HEC because they have a club, put focus on it, more people engaged in it. You can work on a MBA project in Phase 3.
Putting my comments for both schools:
IMD Pros - One year - 11 months to be specific.
High Quality and excellent curriculum, ICP, Discovery Expedition - ICP is great and you get to learn practically. Solving real world problems.
Equivalent to INSEAD, LBS in value as top tier - Most of the people will not agree on it. Again, we do not need to compare.
Chances of getting a job in Switzerland, less taxes and higher salary - High cost of living
will compensate
Proximity to AISTS(my spouse could enrol here in the future) - I do not know about it
Partner support programs are good - Yes
IMD Cons-
Visa risk - no stay back option if I do not get a job - It is one of the biggest fears that make people RE-THINK
High fees - right now the fee including living expenses is 99 lakhs vs 80 lakhs for HEC - Not only this, you need to put more personal money in IMD as compared to HEC. You need to pay first 2 installments by yourself in IMD, although
Prodigy refund you one installment later on if you take a loan from them.
FT ranking low at 25 - It is true but you need to focus on your goals. It does not matter much.
Manufacturing n industry focused - There is no doubt on this point. They are famous for this. Shifting to different industries (for ex. going from manufacturing to tech) will be bit over expectation.
30 students not yet placed in 2019 - Correct info. Let's wait for the this month's end. Generally the placement reports are with 3 months after graduation
Leadership intensive n general management program - Preparing you to be leaders of tomorrow
HEC Paris Pros
FT Top 10 - HEC is rising in every ranking lists. Good sign. FT ranking gives more weight to salaries sections.
Visa stay back extension - Huge advantage if you want to stay in Europe. You can learn a language, re-set your goals.
Excellent at Tech placements even better than IMD(Genpact had 30 students from HEC vs 2 to 3 from IMD) - Exactly. Your background and goals will be aligned better with HEC.
All rounded development - Right
Internship - You can try new industry and function in this period. Many times, we set a goal and that goal changes after talking with current students, market requirements, etc
16 months - so strong language centre - You need to focus on a language (most beneficial will be French).
Cons
Lower quality - I do not agree on this. HEC has a good balanced curriculum in which you develop not only professionally but also personally. They have different ways. For examples - MBAT, Treks and Clubs
No funding for me so far - See my FIRST step
From your background and experience, I suggest HEC though IMD is an amazing
choice. You need to change your goals and expectations with IMD. In case of further discussion, feel free to post back
