Yep. The only way is for you to try running experiments with gmat prep and see what comes out of it. We have some success with answering the first 25 questions correctly and then guessing on the rest but That assumed that you’ll answer every of the first 25 questions correctly which is an unlikely scenario... You won’t know until you try but the highest score would result from improving your timing not from gimmicking the test

Experts,

one of my friends used this strategy on an official test (though old format - he solved 29 Qs out of 41) and got V35.

Hi Guys,

I need your help on the below strategy for verbal - target score V34 to V36 .

My strategy to achieve this score is as follows: my target is to solve the first 25 questions in order so that difficulty level increases and i get more marks. Within this 25 questions, for RC my target is to solve only 2 RC passages but if 3 RC comes before 25th question then i will skip that and solve sufficient questions of other sections so that in total i end up solving 25 questions.

I am using this strategy as I am unable to solve all 36 questions in given time.

my query is - is this strategy viable for my target score or do you see any flaw in this strategy given the way GMAT Algo works ?

Looking forward to your response!!

Hi kj1993,

Thank you for your query. As bb and others have suggested you should try out different strategies in GMATPREP tests and see which one works for you. However, one very important piece of advice I would like share is avoid skipping an RC passage even if you feel it is not your strongest of the three. As RC normally consist of 3-4 questions per passage, it can hurt your score a lot more if you incorrectly answer 3-4 questions in a row. If you must skip some questions try to skip CR or SC in the middle (Not back to back) and gain some time rather than skipping questions consecutively as you would in RC.

Hope this helps. All the best!

Hi Experts,

As requested, i conducted experiments to check whether my strategy is realistic.

Here are the results -

Test 1 - answered 25 Qs correctly (7 SC, 7 CR, 11RC) in order and marked others as wrong

result - V38

Test 2 - answered 20 Qs correctly (9 SC, 4 CR, 7RC) in order and marked others as wrong

result - V32

My friend also used this strategy on an official test (though old format - he solved 29 Qs out of 41) and got V35.

Basis the above, i think its safe to assume that if i solve 25Qs and get only 2-4 incorrect (within 25Qs) and guess on others, from which some might be correct, i can achieve a score of V32 - V34.

What are your views ? abhimahna, anairamitch1804, egmat, GMATNinja, Karishmab, sayantanc2k, carcass, rohan2345, bb, souvik101990, Bunuel
