Hi i request your help in my profile evaluation for one year executive MBA at IIMs and what kind of roles i may get in placement considering my govt job profile...My background= 8 years in a State State govt. Dept. In skill development & Technical education.... Out of which 2 years i was lecturer, 4 years i was a principal of Govt. ITI & now a deputy director academy on a special project of govt. Related to improvement of ITIs & Polytechnics of my entire state . My academic career is 85% consistent marks with lots of extracurricular.
This present job of mine is a secure job with gross salary of 1 lakh plus govt accomodation and avg 10 hours workday, however there is hardly any further promotional prospects in my dept. Except for normal pay revision & increments.
I have following queries :
1. What kind of job profiles after executive MBA at IIMs will be offered to my profile type guys. Because of my niche work exp will i be excluded from any particular profile ??
2. Will my govt job profile without any core industry exposure be a hamper in placements post pgp ??
3. I am more inclined to HR or CSR or general management which have better work life balance in pvt sector. What is the probability i can switch to such roles after my executive MBA considering my long govt. Sector work exp ?? What are my chances in placement in HR/ General management like TASS etc. Through placement at IIMs after executive mba
3. Does it make economical sense to leave such a stable govt job to jump to pvt sector with such expensive pgp programme?
4. How are work life balance of executive mba students at various points of their career.
Would be grateful if someone can help me take a decision as this dilemma is keeping me awake at night.

Hi
Ashu4567Your experience in the state government, specifically in skill development and technical education, is intriguing. We appreciate your efforts in bettering the lives of people through education. Now, let's dive into our evaluation of your profile:
- Your consistent academic performance and robust extracurriculars indicate a well-rounded profile. The GMAT is not explicitly mentioned but securing a competitive score around 680+ will enhance your profile for IIMs.
- Having worked in a government department related to education gives you a unique perspective, something that could be appealing to an MBA program, particularly if you emphasize how this has informed your desire to move into roles related to HR, CSR, or general management.
- We note your rapid progression from a lecturer to deputy director academy in your state government department. With your focus on improving ITIs and Polytechnics across your state, you seem to have taken on substantial responsibilities early in your career. The common challenge faced by applicants from the public sector is to articulate the value they can bring to business-centric roles. Therefore, it's essential to highlight your transferable skills such as leadership, project management, and policy implementation.
- As your next step, we suggest you start networking with alumni or current students of IIMs, who have made a similar transition. Understand their experiences and the skill-set required to make such a move. Also, research thoroughly about the curriculum and the culture of the target schools.
- Coming to your questions, MBA placements are generally open to all profiles. However, certain roles might prefer industry experience. As per our experience, government employees tend to perform well in consulting or roles that require liaison with government bodies. As for HR and general management, you should be able to pivot given your experiences managing educational institutions. On leaving a stable job, the answer relies on your long-term career goals and ambitions. The work-life balance post-MBA can vary greatly depending on the role and the company you join. It is not uncommon to find a healthy work-life balance in roles within HR, CSR, or general management.
We hope this evaluation provides some clarity for your MBA journey. Feel free to post additional questions here or contact us directly.
