Hi Folks,

I'm 33 and finishing off MBA. Looking at Linkedin profile I see people of my age have already hit the Director/SVP post so I will be starting at the lowest of the ladder or does buy side offer better life-work balance at this stage ?

P.S I do have an MS in Quant Finance as well.

I have never come across anyone reaching director or svp within 33 with few exceptions and those exceptions are placed at that position because of their previous educational qualifications and recommendations internally.

Only if you really really really want to do it. The job sucks and is more viewed as a stepping stone to better opportunities. Unless you are seriously in love with banking (and understand the cruel work life it requires), I don't think it's worth it. There are better jobs out there that can both pay better and also provide a good life.

I know someone who started off in IB at around your age. He made MD.
