Is the tens digit of p equal to 6?

(1) \(\frac{p}{10^4}\) has a thousandths digit of 6.

(2) \(0.1p\) has a hundreds digit of 6.

Are You Up For the Challenge: 700 Level Questions

(1) \(\frac{p}{10^4}\) has a thousandths digit of 6.
Let \(\frac{p}{10^4}\) be ab.cd6efg, so p=ab.cd6e*10^4=abcd6e.fg.
The tens digit of abcd6e.fg is 6
Suff

How can you guess that the thousand digit after decimal is 6.

p/10^4 can be 6234.mnop then how can you say tens digit is 6.

secondly why cant p/0.1= abc6.mnop then tens digit is 6.

please clarify

(2) \(0.1p\) has a hundreds digit of 6.
Let 0.1p=ab6cd, so p=ab6cd0, so tens digit is d whhich cannot be determined with given info

A

Using the same examples u used for both the statements but on switching them then,
For statement 1: Let p/10^4= ab6cde, then p= ab6de0000 , then ten's place not equal to 6
For statement 2: Let 0.1*p= ab.c6def , p= abc.6def, then ten's place = 6

Please help me out . Thank you.

Hi
You cannot interchange the examples.
p/10^4 has 6 in thousandths digit and thousandth digit means 0.abTcde
Here T is the thousandth digit.... 0.ab6cde

ab6cde.... Here 6 is in thousands position and not thousandTH.
Hope it clarifies the query.

Is the tens digit of p equal to 6?

(1) \(\frac{p}{10^4}\) has a thousandths digit of 6. --> suff: take p = abcd-> p/10^4=0.abcd --> a is tenth digit and c is thousandth digit in p/10^4, so c = 6. So tens digit of p is c = 6

(2) \(0.1p\) has a hundreds digit of 6. --> insuff: take p = abcd-> 0.1p=abc.d --> c is unit digit and b is tens digit and a is hundreds digit in 0.1p, so a = 6 --> do't know the value of c or tens digit in p

If thousand digit is after decimal and place is before decimal than why in 0.P has a hundred digit , you consider 6 at hundred place.

Please explain the difference between this.... its little bit confusing
