Hi yaygmat,

Based on the information you have provided, your profile appears to be quite strong. We would need more details on each aspect to provide a customized evaluation. Below is a high-level evaluation.

Your academic credentials are good, showing consistency and an ability to handle the MBA program.

Your work experience also seems to be impressive - Make sure you highlight your work impact and achievements and show how your career is relevant to your future MBA aspirations.

Your involvement in various CSR activities, pro bono consulting, and other extracurricular activities also show that you are a well-rounded individual with leadership skills and a commitment to making a positive impact. These activities need to be weaved into your overall narrative to showcase your personality to the adcom and as a result, show what you bring to the class.

Overall, you have a competitive profile that could make you a strong candidate for ISB and top MBA programs. With a solid GMAT score (700+), strong essays, letters of recommendation, and good interview performances, you could be a strong contender for admission to your target schools.

We would be happy to provide a more customized evaluation if you could provide more information about your profile, such as your specific goals, achievements, values, target MBA programs etc. Please feel free to share any additional information or questions you may have.

For a more detailed 1-1 strategy session, please write to [email protected] or fill the form at http://www.admitexpert.com

Hello private00007

Looking at your lower end of work experience and software background, I'll recommend a higher score at least 326+ in order to stand out in the largest and most competitive pool of applicants (the IT crowd).
Regarding work ex, you have some good brands on your CV, but the school will also be interested to know the career progression and achievements in these 20+ months and the conscious decision making behind any career changes and the need to pursue an MBA fresh into a new job.
Extracurricular list looks impressive, but keep in mind two things- one, most school & university activities do not add much value unless the achievements are stellar and two, make sure you bring out relevancy and impact of these activities.
Lastly, career goals, which is the most important piece of the admissions puzzle is missing, make sure you work on goals that are clear and realistic.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Thanks for your reply.
I am definitely aiming for 720 at least.

Hello yaygmat

For a comprehensive profile evaluation, please also share your career goals and estimated GMAT score.
That will help assess strengths/weaknesses better. Based on the information shared, work profile and extracurricular look good, but not recommended to look at elements in isolation.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hey, hope all is well. Your extracurriculars are a spike for me and I can see a recurring theme with respect to hackathons. You should try to weave that into your essays (especially the 1st way which is based on what value will you add for your peers) and the awards/achievements section. College CGPA and pedigree is helpful for the overall candidature. That being said, target a higher GRE (average acceptance GRE for ISB is 327). You are an early professional working in a corporate so I am assuming that the impact at work will mostly be drawn from your product management experience with the early stage startup. A good GRE score (>= the school average) alongside well crafted essays which prominently highlight your beyond the classroom initiatives and projects that you have been a part of at Samsung and the startup will help increase the likelihood of an interview invite.

Hi private00007

Your acads look decent. You should definitely consider mentioning academic spike (if any) in your application. Your work experience (company brand value) will add credibility to your profile. It is important to highlight few meaningful achievements along with career progression to help distinguish yourself from other applicants. While there seem to be plenty of extracurricular activities on your resume, you should pick and choose only the ones that would produce maximum impact. For example- tech hackathon event would definitely provide more impact as it adds to the commonality element in your profile- <IT background -- tech hackathon event -- tech work ex.> You should also introspect what your post MBA are and how ISB would help achieve them. Your decision on what your goals are must be linked to your previous experience (work/ academic). For example, there would be continuity in your profile if you decide to continue in tech industry (refer to commonality element mentioned earlier). Overall, your profile seems good but a lot depends on how and what elements of your profile you would want to focus on in your application. Finally, please ensure you target a GRE score of at least 328 (mean and median score of 2023 Class).

Hope this was helpful! We are a bunch of ISB alums who help potential ISB candidates with profile positioning, essay reviews and interview mocks. Feel free to book a 15 min free session for more discussion- https://calendly.com/reachusfly/15min

Hi private00007 hope this finds you well

It is not clear whether your Product Manager experience in the early-stage startup was full-time, but if it were, you could apply to ISB in the next cycle for normal entry. I have had applicants recently who cracked ISB admit (not EEO) at exactly two years of professional work-ex, so it can be done with the right strategy.

Your extracurricular interests are good conversation starters, but it would require a more in-depth discussion to create a strong overall case for pursuing PGP in the early stages of your career.

You did not mention your goals but know that you should have a very convincing answer regarding what you expect to get from PGP. It will take more than some very generic answers (such as senior product management roles) to convince a business school to award a seat to a young MBA aspirant in the very early stages of his career. Even for EEO applications, you will have to demonstrate what you plan to do differently than an average software engineer to deserve an early admit.

Definitely target a ~330 on GRE. Younger applicants will rarely convince adcoms as to why they cannot work harder on improving their GMAT/GRE scores.

I would be happy to advise you further should you need guidance. You may write to us at [email protected] to schedule a call.

Hi private00007,

Your profile is decent overall. Admission to ISB is competitive and there are many qualified candidates. You need to craft a strong application that highlights your strengths and demonstrates why you are a good fit for the program.

To strengthen your application, you can work on

Essays: clearly articulate your reasons for pursuing an MBA (career goals) and why you are a good fit for ISB

LOR: Choose a recommender who can talk in detail about your abilities, strengths and weaknesses, and your potential for success in the program

Extracurricular activities: You can use the hackathons to showcase good problem-solving, collaboration and maybe project management skills. Also continue to pursue opportunities to demonstrate leadership skills and make a positive impact in your community through volunteering or pursuing your passions

GRE score: Target a 327+ to put yourself in a better position for admission

For a more detailed 1-1 strategy session, please write to [email protected] or fill the form at http://www.admitexpert.com

Good luck!

Kanipad

Motivation for GMAT
To transition into a leadership role and develop business understanding equipped with my technical knowledge.
Leadership role comes across as very generic Kanipad. There definitely need to be more concrete goals than just leadership role.

But all this can wait. Right now, your focus should be on getting a 700+ on GMAT. This is even more important since you seem to have a rather average academic record in your undergrad.

I want to know my chances of getting into ISB.

My academic qualifications are as follows:
10th- 8.4 CGPA
12th- 81.8%
B.A. LLB. (Hons.) from National Law University, Lucknow - 6.55 CGPA

Before joining college I used play guitar professionally for 2 years and saved up for law school from it. During college I was part of the college band and won several competitions.

I represented my college at a national debate competition.

I also made Line Editor of the Law Review in my first year and edited 2 national journals.

I interned at the Supreme Court and High Court of Delhi under a lawyer for 6 months.

I have published 2 research papers.

After college I started working as a writer for some tech companies, got promoted to Content Strategist in a year. I currently have almost 21 months of work experience and currently the Head of Growth and Content at a UK-based startup.

I will be applying to ISB this year and am seeking admission for 2024.

Cheers!

abhisheksingh2525 hope this finds you well

You have an interesting profile. My 2 cents

1. Your Undergrad GPA is low. If you accept that this can be a very realistic hurdle in your MBA journey and you make a conscious effort to work your profile narrative such that you balance your low GPA, you will not be disappointed. Focus on getting a high GRE/GMAT so that you can show your true academic potential.

2. Your degree in law and earlier internships are good talking points, but there seems to be a missing link between your transition to a content strategist role. Perhaps there is more to your story, such as how you apply your legal knowledge to a tech-oriented space (maybe!). And for this reason, you should focus on crafting a logical professional narrative that makes sense from adcom's point of view.

3. You did not mention your goals. What do you expect to achieve post-PGP? Of all the questions asked in the PGP interviews, the question about goals and how ISB can add value to your professional journey is the most important. Failure to describe PGP-justifying goals is a common mistake made by PGP rejects.

You can read more about this here - Fail-proof strategy for acing that ISB Interview

Avoid these pitfalls in goals essays

Feel free email us as [email protected] should you need to discuss your profile in detail.

Best wishes

Hi Abhishek,

You have transitioned very impressively from a Law background to Head of growth and content. I would like to congratulate you for that. Growing from being a professional guitar player to law school is also impressive. Saving up for law school from that, shows that you have a resilient core. ISB could be a great fit for you and vice versa if you tread the road ahead strategically. Give a good thought to your goals, how ISB fits, and first of all the GMAT score. With a very diverse profile, applying to BSchool becomes a tightrope walk. The more thorough your homework, the better will be your application.

All the best! You can always get in touch in case you want to discuss in further detail.

I would not suggest Product Management phoenix2194.

Chances in ISB: No one can predict at this stage, but chances of an interview call are excellent (obviously if the application is in a decent shape).

Hello everyone

Please evaluate my profile.

I work in a private sector bank and have an experience of 8 years as on July 2023. I have experience retail banking mainly in lending, forex and trade finance.

10th - 88.4
12th - 72
B.tech - 8.4/10

I had been actively participating in every kind of extra curriculars in school and college.

What are the chances to get into a ISB, IIMA or IIM B ? And what should be my approach?
