Sure
Nikhil …. Happy to share my thought process on selecting among schools.
I considered the below factors (in no particular order):
1. Class size
I was looking for a school that had a smaller class size. This meant more meaningful engagement, more so in todays time wherein classes are held virtually. I chose bonding with few over networking with masses. Though some might say networking with a lot of people has a better probability of landing opportunities.
2. 2 yr vs 1 yr MBA
The achilles heel of my decision

.
The factor that tilted my decision towards a 1yr MBA was my 7yrs of work experience. At this stage I didn’t see how an internship will benefit me. Also, not many meaningful internships exists for higher work ex. candidates. This is more so compounded with the pandemic wherein I saw some students take up internship only because it was mandated as part of curriculum.
I didn’t feel this was the best use of an additional 1yr not to mention the opportunity cost of an additional year.
3. Post MBA opportunities
The post MBA salary for Ivey grads is higher than other schools (if not the highest). This stems from the fact that the class has more senior folks and hence generally recruits for senior roles.
I felt being among this cohort will do better justice to my post MBA aspirations and roles that I am eyeing.
4. Adcom team and alumni support
Last but not the least, the adcom is super helpful and I felt they were invested in my journey right from the start. At most other schools I felt that I was just another candidate being recruited.
Also, my success rate at reaching out to Ivey alumni was much better than other schools. They were generous with their time and provided candid feedback on their journey.
Given the current choppy job market, I felt having an invested career centre / school alongwith a reachable alumni base is my best bet. (FYI, the career centre conducts the interview at Ivey).
To sum it up, I basically choose Ivey for its 1yr program and strong placement/ alumni base.
Also I have listed couple of factors that were not key for me but might help others:
1. London is a small town. Hence at Ivey most candidates are from outside of London. This means that their sole priority / focus during the year is on the MBA and connecting with peers. Schools located in larger cities have many local candidates from these cities. Hence these candidates might juggle time between school and personal friends / family which can dilute the experience.
2. The 1yr program allows only a year’s work permit whereas a 2yr program allows 3yrs work permit. Basis my discussion with alumni this should not matter as 1year is sufficient time to either apply for a renewal of work permit or for PR status.
3. Ivey uses cases to teach vs lecture based teaching at other schools. Hence it joins the ranks of few schools globally who do this. This gives some bragging rights

. On a serious note, unless there is a specific preference this should not matter much.

NikhilYup....I am on the Ivey bandwagon🙂
bschoolhunterSounds great. Congratulations. I also see you have many admits from many other schools. I am just wondering what made you decide on Ivey(if you are comfortable sharing those details)?
