Manufacturing output in the nation of Okroshkia rose 4.9 percent in the year that ended in February, far more than they did in 12 months that ended in the previous quarter.

(A) more than they did
The subject is Manufacturing output and it is singular and cannot be they
(B) more than they were
They is incorrect usage as a pronoun for manufacturing output,as output is singular
(C) more than it did
Correct comparison and correct s-v agreement.
(D) higher than
Higher is not correct because more higher in the whole year is not correct.
(E) higher than it was
Higher than it was is not correct because the comparison is between the rise in the last 12 months and current rise.

The sentence is talking about the output, hence pronoun used "they" is incorrect and it should be "it". Hence IMO it's C

It is the correct pronoun which is required, and more is the correct word than higher in this case.
Hence C is the correct answer.

IMO C ;

Manufacturing output in the nation of Okroshkia rose 4.9 percent in the year that ended in February, far more than they did in 12 months that ended in the previous quarter.

(A) more than they did ; singular subject ; they is wrong
(B) more than they were singular subject ; they were is wrong
(C) more than it did ; correct
(D) higher than ; we are modifying and referring to "mfg output" not percent so wrong comparison
(E) higher than it was ; again same reason as D

Option A: Wrong
This option can be eliminated based on plural word ‘they’ . The output is singular and so ‘it’ is right choice of word.

Option B: Wrong
Same reason as option A

Option C: Correct
This option corrects the plural ‘they’ issue and also neatly takes care of comparison by using ‘it did’ which compares the output rate of increase in 2 different period.

Option D: Wrong
‘Far higher than’ in 12 months. This one has comparison issue.

Option E: Wrong
‘Higher than it was in 12 months’ - we are comparing the rise in 2 different periods and not the exact value at a particular time.

Answer : C

We use "more" or "less", when we have to refer to something uncountable. Here, "more" tries to modify rose, thus "more" is adverb and is used correctly (in A, B, and C). But A and B both have problem - pronoun "they". Logically, "they" must refer to "manufacturing output" but this is singular. Since we have pronoun error, we can get rid of A and B.
Now, lets focus our attention on D and E. If we remove fluff, we get "manufacturing output....rose....., higher" but this does not make much sense. Thus we can remove D and E.
C is our winner, based on the analysis above.. In C, "it" refers to output, while "did" to rose. All good.

Manufacturing output in the nation of Okroshkia rose 4.9 percent in the year that ended in February, far more than they did in 12 months that ended in the previous quarter.

(A) more than they did
Manufacturing output is a singular subject, so the pronoun should be 'it' instead of 'they'.

(B) more than they were
Same issue as A.

(C) more than it did
Correct - also replicates the verb form with 'it did'

(D) higher than
Incorrectly Compares 'output rose 4.9%' with '12 months'. Should have been 'higher than it did'

(E) higher than it was
The verb rose has to be replicated with 'it did' and not 'it was'

Option C

C

Pronoun "they' cant refer to output, has to be "it". A and B are out.

Also, I think, to compare percentage of output, "more" is more suitable than "higher"

(A) more than they did - incorrect. Output rose - it, not they
(B) more than they were - incorrect. the same mistake as in A
(C) more than it did - correct
(D) higher than - Incorrect. We need a verb after
(E) higher than it was - incorrect, rose - so did, not was

Manufacturing output in the nation of Okroshkia rose 4.9 percent in the year that ended in February, far more than they did in 12 months that ended in the previous quarter.

simple sentence: output rose 4.9% in the year, far more than output rose in 12 months. --> last "output rose" can be replaced by "it did" to avoid the repetation

(A) more than they did -->there is no plural noun refer to "they"
(B) more than they were --> same as A
(C) more than it did --> correct: align w/ analysis
(D) higher than --> (1) we need a action clause to compare after than, (2) % should be "more" not "higher"
(E) higher than it was --> (1) "output did(refers to rose)" is correct, not "output was". (2) % should be "more" not "higher"

(B) more than they were - "they" Pronoun error - Must be it (Manufacturing output)
(C) more than it did - Correct "Did" is required as comparison is between the % of rise
(D) higher than - higher than what? pronoun missing
(E) higher than it was - "was" is incorrect.

Let's get straight to the options

A) more than they did

IT IS A CLEAR CASE OF INCORRECR S-V PAIR

THEY CANT REFER TO MANUFACTURING OUTPUT

B) more than they were

SAME ERROR AS ABOVE IN OPTION A

(C) more than it did

This looks correct as SV pair are correct and comparison is correct and concise.
Keep B

D) higher than

HERE I AM.NOT.COMFORTABLE WITH THE COMPARISON , HIGHER THAN WHAT ???

PLUS HERE MORE IS BETTER WHEN CLEAR COMPARISON TAKES PLACE

HIGHER GIVES DEGREE

(E) higher than it was

SAME REASON AS E ( HIGHER VS MORE )

MY TAKE.IS C .

Manufacturing output in the nation of Okroshkia rose 4.9 percent in the year that ended in February, far more than they did in 12 months that ended in the previous quarter.

(A) more than they did

They refers to what? OUT

(B) more than they were

Same as above. OUT

(C) more than it did

I see an it . lets keep it. Feels idiomatic as well. fits with meaning

(D) higher than

Far higher than in 12 months. Output was higher in the previous 12 months? Illogical Meaning .OUT

(E) higher than it was

So the growth was at a certain point 12 months ago. Now the past has changed? OUT

Answer C.
C for Cudos!
