Thanks!

My question re GMAT is that I already work in a consulting and will have a return offer (=guaranteed placement in consulting). Do you think it could diminish the effect of low quant?

so the company will sponsor you?
or just guarantee you'll be hired after the MBA?

if they sponsor you I guess it would reduce the danger to the B-school. However, you still are far below every average GMAT for each of those schools.
either way, if the company doesn't sponsor you, be sure that you mention in your application (e.g. essays) you have a guaranteed place after you graduate.

If you WANT to apply this year, then I would personally not risk R1 (unless you are not sure you can improve your GMAT, in which case R1 is better than R2).

but I'll leave the professionals to give their input.

usually, the reasoning is, if you're a strong profile you can potentially be on or a bit below the target GMAT, however, 30 points is a lot, though it's not a guarantee they'll reject you either.

Hi Aditya66751,

Thank you for your post and for sharing your profile. I like that you have worked with a diverse body of people. You have a compelling story that requires developing for your MBA applications. I do think, however, that a GMAT retake will be beneficial for your target schools, especially for Tepper and IESE. Regardless of you applying with a 660 GMAT score or retake and increase your overall score, what you will need to focus on in your applications is your story. How will you share your story with the Adcom that will differentiate you from other candidates?

Hi eka27,

Thank you for your post. What was your undergraduate degree in? From the limited information I have (and it's very limited), I recommend you apply to a couple of R1 with current GMAT, provided you submit a really strong application. Be sure you are introspective and include why you need an MBA from these institutions in particular. If you do not think you have enough time to submit a strong application to R1, then wait and apply to R2. Just submitting an application will not increase your chances, unfortunately.

Hi all,

would be thankful for your evaluation!

Background and nationality: BIG3 Consulting, Eastern Europe
Undergrad Information: top uni in an Easter European country (but not top in outside of the country), economics, GPA 95/100
GMAT: 700 (Q45, V40)
Work experience and leadership: 2 yrs corporate finance, 2 years consulting
Community and others: lots of EC in undergrad (student club president; case contest winner on a country level); some good EC during work (mentorship)
Post MBA goals: short-term - consulting; long-term - industry where I have prior experience

Schools: Wharton; Chicago; Columbia; Haas (?); Stanford (?)

What is better: apply w/current GMAT in R1 or apply with (potentially) higher GMAT in R2? (Everything else remains unchanged)

Thanks

Thank you!!

Quick question:

I work in MBB and my work is project based. I am asking a manager from my office to write my recommendation; we worked together on several projects (incl. this spring, 4 months ago), although CURRENTLY I am not on his project. I strongly feel that he can e considered as my current direct supervisor, as we have worked together just recently, and due to the nature of my work I can have a new direct supervisor each week :)

Do you think this type of supervisor relationship qualifies under "current direct supervisor" for Stanford?

Thanks!

Hi

Yes, your manager from the office who's supervised you recently would work as a recommender. Stanford's requirement specifically states "One reference from your current direct supervisor (or next best alternative) at work." If the manager is the "next best alternative," then definitely use him. The idea is, however, that you include someone that can speak about your character, work ethic, and potential.

Good luck!

Hi ViktorKrum,

Thank you for your post and for sharing your story. Overall you have a strong profile, but as you pointed out, you belong to an overrepresented body of applicants and will compete with other highly qualified candidates. Since you are applying to round 2, and you believe your GMAT does not reflect your strengths, I recommend you retake the exam - after all, you want to submit an application you are proud of. That said, I also recommend you not rely on the quant measures like GMAT, GPA, etc.; you want to also take the time to develop your story. Tell the adcom why they should accept you as opposed to another "Male, Indian, engineer" who is competing for the same exact spot in Booth's class of 2021, for example. Be introspective (which shouldn't be difficult for a poet :) ) and clear about your goals and ambitions.

Happy to continue the conversation with a free 30-minute profile evaluation. If interested, click here to coordinate.

Good luck!
