I sent them an email (there is a separate inbox for waitlisted candidates: [email protected]) and below was the auto-reply:

Thank you for your email and interest in the Texas MBA program. In order to better assist our applicants currently on the waitlist, below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions with regards to the waitlist decision timeline, supplemental material requests, interviews, feedback and other common questions. Please refer to the information below.

WAITLIST FAQ’s:

WAITLIST TIMELINE AND DECISIONS:

When will I hear a final decision?
The Admissions Committee periodically reviews candidates currently on the Waitlist (as it seeks to balance the diversity of the incoming class), but we are not able to offer a concrete timeline of when you will hear your final decision. This is due to the uncertain and often unpredictable nature of the admissions process, and we are not able to predict the movement of the incoming class.

What is the latest date anyone has been admitted off the Waitlist?
We are unable to guarantee a timeline of when you will hear a final decision, however most decisions are typically released by early summer. However, in rare circumstances, decisions have been released as late as mid to late summer. While this is not a common occurrence, you are able to remain on the Waitlist as long as you are willing to continue being considered for admission. If your personal decision-making timeline does not allow you to remain on the waitlist, you are able to request to be removed at any time by emailing [email protected]. We are not able to honor early decision requests from candidates on the Waitlist.

I’m an international student on the Waitlist and I need a decision in order to begin the visa application process.
We are aware of the timelines required of international students and obtaining a visa. We understand that international applicants need time to process a visa, however unfortunately we may not know the final diversity and make-up of our class. Therefore, you may choose to remove yourself from the Waitlist due to visa timing issues.

WAITLIST SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS:

Can I submit new materials for consideration to enhance my candidacy?
As the Admissions Committee periodically reviews candidates on the Waitlist, there may be an opportunity for supplemental information or materials to be submitted for further consideration of your candidacy. It is not a guarantee that we will ask for an update or more information if we feel we have enough information in your original application to render a final decision. While typically we ask that candidates wait until prompted by Admissions Staff to provide supplemental information, we understand that there may be timely information or updates that you consider important. With regards to this type of new information (such as a recent promotion, a new test score or a new job), you may inform the Admissions Committee by emailing the updated information to [email protected].

When can I submit supplemental materials and how much lead-time will you give me to collect them?
In the event that the Admissions Committee requests additional or supplemental information to further consider your candidacy, an email will be sent to all candidates currently on the Waitlist approximately one week prior to the review period so there is plenty of time to collect materials for submission.

What kind of supplemental materials do you ask for?
While we can ask for a range of materials, typically it is a new resume if you’ve recently been promoted or a new test score. Occasionally, we might ask to clarify your career goals or provide us with your back-up plan.

How can I submit these materials?
Specific submission instructions will be sent along with the request for information, but typically supplemental materials can be sent directly to [email protected] in the form of scanned PDF files to be uploaded manually to your application by our admissions staff (your application in the system cannot be edited once submitted).

I want to reiterate my interest/enthusiasm for the Texas MBA program, but don’t have specific updates (as listed above.) How can I do this?
The Admissions Committee prefers that you wait to be solicited for any supplemental items and that those that are sent are material updates to your application. Please refer to the list of acceptable materials/information above. However, if you would like to let us know where the Texas MBA program ranks among your choices of schools, why we are the best fit for you and your career goals, what other schools you are applying to, you may send those along to the [email protected] email address and we will be sure to include it as an attachment to your application.

Who should I direct my questions or supplemental materials to?
All Waitlist inquiries and supplemental information should be sent to [email protected]. We will ensure that your materials and information is uploaded to your application for the Admissions Committee’s review.

WAITLIST INTERVIEWS:

Will I get a chance to interview if I’m placed on the Waitlist and I haven’t already interviewed?
Interview invitations can come at any time during the admissions cycle. We do not interview all candidates on the waitlist. If we deem it necessary, we will request an interview while you are on the waitlist to further assess your candidacy. Please wait for an invitation via email.

WAITLIST APPLICATION FEEDBACK:

Can I receive specific feedback on my application?
We are not able to provide individual feedback on your application due to both the large volume of applications we receive and fairness to other applicants in the pool. However, we are always willing to discuss what makes a strong application, generally. This information is discussed in detail on our website.

WAITLIST QUESTIONS (GENERAL):

How many people are placed on the Waitlist in a given year?
Each year, we receive approximately 2,000+ applications total and the incoming class is approximately 270. While there are many qualified individuals, we are limited in the amount of space in our classrooms. The Admissions Committee thoroughly reviews each application holistically, but due to the extremely competitive applicant pool, the waitlist includes very strong candidates that we do not have room in the class for at the time of the decision notification. Each year, the applicant pool changes (different people apply) and the strength of that pool varies. Therefore, the size and strength of the waitlist varies considerably year to year.

Why haven’t I been contacted with further instructions, asked for an update on decision timing or been sent a request for further information?
The Admissions Committee reviews candidates currently on the Waitlist on a rolling basis depending on space created in the incoming class. As the timing of movement is largely out of our control, we are not able to predict key timelines associated with the Waitlist until later in the admissions cycle. We would not be able to send you further instructions for gathering supplemental materials if we were not able to identify potential room in the incoming class. We ask that you continue to remain patient as we gain insight into the availability of space in the incoming class and trust that we will reach out to you in a timely fashion should we require further information or have any material updates regarding your candidacy.

Should I request an early decision if I have other enrollment deadlines to adhere to?
We are not able to honor early decision requests from candidates on the Waitlist. In the event the Texas MBA program is at or near the top of your list of schools, we recommend you remain on the waitlist as long as your decision-timeline can bear. The reason not to request an early decision is that at the time of your requested early decision date, we may not have a full picture of available space in the class.

Is there an appeal process if I did not get admitted off the Waitlist?
All admission decisions are considered final for a given application cycle (i.e., year). You are welcome to reapply to the program again next year. We do not hold this season's application against you. We evaluate your new application on its merits and in the context of the new applicant pool.

Hi guys,

I was waitlisted last year and again this year.
Yesterday my self esteem was gone. Waitlist is really cruel, you kind of speculate when you might have an update, but never really know. It's bad sleeping time!!
However, it is said that 1st round "waitlisters" are in a better shape than others. I really need to believe that to have some optimism because this really got me down.
I see that last year only 4 people reported "Admitted from WL" here in Gmatclub. I believe this info is not correct. Anyway... It is safe to say that I should consider plan B.
Extremely sad. But not hopeless.

Good luck, guys.

Hey nandoval,
I feel your pain completely. Last night was tough. I was waitlisted last year w/o interview . This time around I was very confident, having had a very strong interview and essays. But I keep telling myself what Rocky Balboa once said - "It ain't about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done".
I'm sure there's something better for us. Let's keep winning. All the best to everyone here!

It's definitely tough to get waitlisted after working so hard! Keep your chin up guys - the right thing will definitely come. McCombs isn't completely out yet but you still have plenty of time for R2 and R3. Best of luck!

Hi everyone,

Yeah it's a bummer to be on the WL, I'm sure we all thought we were getting an admit; watching the new Star Wars yesterday was kind of my consolation prize.

It's normal to feel down for a while, but I think now is the time to pick ourselves up and at the very least apply to a few schools in R2 (specially since there is little time to round up recommenders).

Now some potentially uplifting facts:

If you see the numbers, McCombs say they receive 2000+ apps for 270 spots, that would bring the acceptance rate to a very low 13.5%, HOWEVER, their actual rate is closer to 30%, and that's because the school has a relatively low admissions Yield (accepted candidates actually matriculating) according to a source I was reading yesterday their yield is about 43%, pretty low!

So in short, McCombs is somewhat of a "Safety school" for many of the Übermensch that get accepted into the M7 and end up not accepting their admissions offer from UT, that means more spaces for solid, hard working regular guys like many of us!

I agree with what someone said above that R1 Waitlist for UT is not that bad of a place to be, best of luck to everyone!

Dear christianb19,

Everyone here is being very helpful by fostering more hope for those of us waitlisted. However, your usage of data points has kindled more hope than the usual 'keep persevering' motto I use to push myself forward.

Big thanks for sharing your observation !

What was the earliest anyone was admitted from the waitlist last year?

Reviewing the last 2 year's thread, it seemed that most people started to hear back at the beginning of May for potential follow-up questions (what other schools are you considering, any scholarship offers, long/short term goal clarification, etc.). It seems as if most of the final decisions came in June and July...I've heard of people hearing back as late as mid-July which is definitely tough.

Round 2 applications aren't due for a couple of weeks so as they start to consider the next batch of candidates, hopefully that will help the rest of us. If we decide to go with another program, it's very important for us to withdraw our spot on the waitlist for other candidates. The waitlist threads in previous years have been rather quiet - let's try to keep one another updated if we have any information to share.

Best of luck everyone!

Hi All,

I was wait-listed in R1 without an interview.

Retook the GMAT and moved from 680 to 750. I have updated the score to the Adcom and received a mail informing me that the new score has been added to my file.

As i read through last year wait-list stories I have seen applications being reviewed only after all the rounds have been completed.

Wanted to know whether someone has any experience getting an interview call due to updated scores in the next round? Hoping I get a chance to interview!! :)

Hey guys,

I was waitlisted for McCombs and admitted to another school.
Considering that McCombs is my priority, I wonder if I should let McCombs know.
Can anyone share something to help me out.
Should I tell them or should I wait for them to ask for information?

Well I got some "News" today. Earlier on, I applied to the Texas Venture Labs (TVL) scholarship competition; I have a small start-up here in El Salvador which is focused on producing high quality customizable K9 gear, and I applied with a proposal to expand this idea. In the executive summary and statement of interest required by TVL I was very explicit in stating that I was on the R1 wait list and that I hoped that participating would improve my admittance chances. To my surprise I was selected as a semi-finalist and it looks that I'm going to Austin for the competition...I will prepare to win this competition (of course!), but I'm hoping that either way just the fact that I was selected as a Semi-finalist can help me get ultimately admitted!

Any news guys?

Still waiting for an interview invite. I think I might wear my iPhone down early from all the times I unlock it and refresh my email each day.

This is the worst waiting game ever haha.
