Hi fellow GMATians
I am interested in pursuing a PhD in Marketing (Brand Management / Counsumer Behavior from US or Euro college. I have earlier given GMAT and have a score of 680.
Have had 3 attempts to GMAT actually with scores of 680, 720 , 680 . The 720 score got cancelled by GMAT guys (FML) because of technical glitch at centre and was offered a free re-test wherein i scored 680 again
Now I kind of am exhausted preparing for GMAT and have reached a phase where I am thinking - 'ok let us go for colleges that will accept this score, focus on the course rather than college.'
Assistance Needed : 2 folds
1. Can you guys suggest the colleges I should target for this score range for a PhD in marketing, ?
2. Would really be great full if people here can put me in touch with those pursuing the course.
Thanks in advance and hoping for some valuable inputs.
Anybody else looking forward to pursue a PhD in Marketing; would love to connect and discuss this more.
Regards
Praval
I will leave you with the following thoughts (insider knowledge).
- PhD admissions are very competitive, especially in the top programs.
- US schools differ from Euro/Asia ones in that the former do not expect you to have a research proposal in hand. Your application will be evaluated based on the usual criteria (grades, test scores, essays, references). Euro/Asia schools typically ask for detailed proposals at time of application. The philosophies of these schools are different.
- Regarding test scores: It is of course helpful to have "good" scores, e.g., anything over GMAT 690 would be competitive at many (but not all) programs.
- The primary points that will be considered will relate to your motivation for doing a PhD. You *must* clearly explain yourself and demonstrate that you understand what this program is designed for.
- There is NO connection between MBA programs and PhD programs. Your application process will be completely different.
- If you do not know or understand what PhDs do in their lives, then the PhD is not for you. Your entire life will be spent reading, writing, teaching, doing research, etc.
Hope that helps.
