Hi Jon,

I work on the audit side for midsized regional firm. I've been promoted twice and already set to make audit manager soon though and I would be considered fairly young for the position as I'm currently only 25.

Work Leadership:
- I'm one of the individuals involved in training our new hires each year. (20-30 new hires each year)
- I am the lead on all the projects I work on and this year I was the one who coordinated, scheduled, and staffed all of the clients for the Partner I work with. I work in a new niche at the firm that I helped build with the partner so I have a lot of responsibility and have been promoted quickly because of it.

School Leadership:
- cofounded a professional business fraternity on my campus
- involved various other small clubs (i.e Econ clubs, toastmasters etc)

School - ranked around top 75 by usnews.

Planning to ED to Columbia.

Hey dude,
Good to hear back from you.
Well I could still use a bit more detail here, but now I have a better idea. Overall your profile is very good, although I think you should be stretching out your school list over the Top 15/20 schools.

M7 will likely be challenging as:
- Your GMAT is below average (10-20 points)
- Your GPA is below average (average is about 3.5-2.7)
- Neither your employer nor school are top feeders to M7 schools.

So unless you have some ace under your sleeve, I wouldnt suggest applying to more than 2 M7 schools (the ones you are most passionate about). To give a good balance to your school selection strategy, I'd say 1-2 M7 schools, 2-3 in the S16, 1-2 in the 16-25 ranking as a safe.

I could advise you a bit more on the schools, but I dont yet know what it is you want to do!
:)
Best,
JF

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the reply. I thought I mentioned it above but I guess I must have left it out. My goal is to transition my career into investment banking which is why I'm heavily targeting the M7 schools. Realistically I will probably only be applying to about 4 of the M7. 1. Columbia 2. Booth 3. Kellogg 4. Wharton.

Though I am applying to some schools outside the M7, I'm trying to keep it to schools that I think could help me achieve my goal and will be shortening down the list I've put above in my first post. I honestly considered not really applying to any safety schools as I wasn't sure if any of the safety schools could get me to where I wanted

Thanks for the advice.

Hey there,
I understand, but its helpful to see things from the schools' perspective to understand your chances, and essentially they will have people who have the GMAT and the GPA and the school, and who even have IB experience, so they wont have a reason to offer you an admit when they have better candidates (unless you give them a reason)

But be aware that there are non M7 schools that also place pretty well in IB - Johnson, Tepper and UNC come to mind first and foremost, and I feel with your profile that they are more reasonable schools to apply to.

Of course you CAN decide "Top School or Bust" and this is a totally valid application strategy even if its risky. But if you do have a backup plan (i.e. I will retake GMAT score higher, and then next year apply again and to an expanded list)

I hope this helps,
Best,
Jon
