Hi! I really appreciate you evaluating my profile!
Hi @Carolynniers-- happy to provide some comments below about your profile!
· Demographics (nationality, gender):
White female
· Education (undergraduate institution, GPA, major - high school/entrance exams not needed):
University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Business admin & public policy, 3.8 GPA.Go Heels! That's a great GPA from a great program!
· GMAT or GRE or EA score (include section breakdown):
At test center: 700 (Q42, V42) The 700 is solid-- it would be great if you could get the Q up a little-- or just be thinking of other ways to demonstrate quantitative aptitude through coursework at UNC or beyond.
· Work experience (briefly highlight amount of work experience, industries, roles, promotions, special accomplishments, international exposure):
4 years MBB direct promote to consultant impressive!
· Extracurricular activities (briefly highlight notable undergraduate and post-undergraduate ones):
Very involved in womens affinty group, recruiting, firm mentorship, advisor for UNC club
· Target schools:
Kellogg, Booth, Harvard, Wharton, Darden, Fuqua To some degree this also depends on what you want to do post MBA-- I have worked with people with stats like yours and seen them have success at Kellogg, Booth, Wharton, Darden and Fuqua-- and I would not say that HBS is totally out of reach-- a lot of this depends on how good a job you do in telling your story
(this is where I need help, I need a general sense of how far or close I am at getting into some of these schools)
It's always a good idea to have some safety, target and reach schools as you consider MBA options
· Other information relevant to your profile:
1. As my profile stands, I still find it difficult to grasp how much of an overreach it is for me to get into some of these programs. To me it's clear that HBS is an overreach, but I truly have no idea what program would be a "safety application" given my profile. I appreciate the honest feedback. A safety option is a school where your test scores, work tenure and quality and academics are significantly ahead of the class profile. Schools in the top 18-30 range would likely be in the safety category--but don't stress too much in defining whether a school is a safety, target or reach-- focus on schools where you want to go-- for sure you will not get into HBS if you don't apply! I just worked with someone who was sure they bombed HBS but got in-- a good essay that explains your story can do a lot for you-- and HBS always likes to have a few UNC people in their class. I don't see this as impossible for you.
2. I am struggling to find inspiration to retake the GMAT. I am not happy with the 690, but realistically, I am not sure I will be able to take the time I took to study for those two attempts again. I know I can get 10-30 more points if I truly tried, but I do think that it's going to impact others aspects of my application which I think I need to start putting some time on. Based on my profile, is this something that would really swing the balance in case I scored say 20 more points? First-- I thought you said above you had a 700? But po-TAY-TOE... Pot-ta- to... doesn't matter too much-- the only thing that might move the meter more is if you were to take GRE and get a higher Q score and if you can get something in range of 163-4 for V and Q each that might be a better way to go
3. If not covered answering Q1 and Q2, any suggested areas of focus?
I think focusing on why you need an MBA as the next step in your journey-- and then identify what you need from an MBA to get there-- and how each particular school helps you get there is where to focus. We do this every day with our clients-- if you want to reach out for a free consult I or anyone on our Stratus team would be glad to explain more about the steps you should be taking to get to your best applications! I see some great things in here... lots of schools will love the MBB and you have a stellar academic record too! Link to sign up for free consult is here
