Hello,

I’ve been studying for the gmat on and off for about a year now. I buckled down and really started to study march- July. I took the gmat and scored 430. How is this possible ?

I’ve taken one Manhattan free practice test and scored a 600. I’ve taken several Veritas prep exams and scored between 540-590. The official gmat practice exams I’ve scored 470 and 500. I even got a tutor for two months. I’m thinking maybe my issue is I’m just learning how to do problems I’ve gotten wrong in the past, but maybe I’m not exactly mastering the skills (algebra, geometry, etc). In other words, maybe I was just getting problems right based off memory, and seeing the type of problem before.

I’m considering switching to the gre, but I’m not sure if I want to give up on the gmat yet. Any suggestions on how to revamp my study plan? I feel like I’m starting for scratch, but I want to take the exam again in three months.im considering Target test prep, but I am open to other options too. I’m weak in both verbal and quant.

Thanks:

Hi 94Maverick,

If you feel you remember the solutions while you are solving them, it can be a problem to study, especially Verbal. You have to change your material of study.
If you have not done Official Guide yet, that is your best material. Also try doing Quant & Verbal Review. Then you may reach out to other materials.

GRE, obviously you 'll need to check the acceptance rate for your target colleges & Yes Quants is relatively easy in GRE, Verbal needs a bit of remembering words (a lot of them). So, if you're comfortable with that, GRE can be an option.

How can I figure out the gre acceptance rate at my targeted schools? Gre is barely mentioned on top b schools websites. My top schools are duke and Michigan.

It’s generally given in the respective college websites. If not, write an email to the admission cell of those colleges, you’ll get the required information.

Hello 94Maverick

We will request you not to be disheartened. We agree that a score of 430 is very less and doesn’t provide any opportunity to get into a top university. All good ranking universities require a score of at least 680 or above. But, to reach a score of 700 or above from 430 is realistic.

If we analyze the achieved score of 430, it is a clear observation of us that your basics and concepts are not in place. So, the first step for you is to build your basic concept on all the topics. Also, you need reliable resources and Up-To-Date questions that meet GMAT exam trends. You can certainly do that with our "Math Review" (5-hour lesson). These videos are for reviewing basic math, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and word problems. Visit our website https://www.mathrevolution.com to check our free trial pack and free video lesson.

Once you do that, take our free diagnostic test to check your performance. You may also take online classes from our experts who will not only help you in building concepts, but also will make you learn quick and unique approaches to solve DS/PS questions in GMAT.

Considering your target score of 700 or above, we would recommend you to check our Quant shortcut 51 module. Also, check other reliable resources for the verbal section on GMAT club.

In the end, various possible combinations that you should keep in mind to achieve a score of 700 or above are: V37/Q50, V39/Q49, V43/Q45 are some possible combinations.

Let us know if you have further questions.

You can reach us at info@mathrevolution.com

Success is within your reach.

Good luck!
