I don't have the detailed solution (I got this question and OA from a study group). This is how I solved.

Let's jot down the points:
Premise: tbbt current popular top tv show compared to others
Premise: another old classic show friends is BELIEVED to be best compared to all
Conclusion: the love and preference for such classics MAY BE for the reason that they are somewhat relate-able to life.

Since it is Must-be-true question, the facts given above must be true and no extra/exaggerated information is accepted.

(A) Every show will remain popular for decades if it is relate-able to life. - there is no guarantee. info related to friends was just a speculation.

(B) No matter how successful a television show is, it will always be surpassed by one that is more successful. - I initially went for this option since it looks obvious but the sentence uses strong language. Nowhere in the passage it is mentioned that a show WILL BE surpassed by a more successful show.

(C) Only classics remain all-time popular for decades.- this is obviously wrong...out of scope

(D) Viewers prefer life-related dramas over shows with unique, fresh ideas. - a shell game. the paragraph tries to convince you to infer this as the answer but spot the probability words like believed, might etc in the passage. The passage nowhere uses strong extreme language.

(E) Current popularity and viewership of a popular show is no guarantee that the show might always have high viewership. -This is the CORRECT answer. At first glance, this sentence might seem redundant because of strong words like no guarantee and have high viewership. But if you keenly notice the meaning and flow of the paragraph: tbbt is current popular show but no one can assure that tbbt may have high viewership. 'Might', the probable word is parallel with the meaning and flow of the paragraph.

Hope it helps.

I'm still not convinced by the explanation. Option D doesn't use any strong language. By the same analogy you use, the argument states that, F.R.I.E.N.D.S believed to have transcended, not actually transcended. So, the show may or may not be exceeded by TBBT viewership. Does that help?

I do agree with your explanation but not fully convinced. Option D guarantees that the viewers prefer life-related dramas over shows with unique, fresh ideas. But the passage speaks about a possibility of preference. Like you pointed out, F.R.I.E.N.D.S is believed to have transcended and NOT ACTUALLY transcended. So information about friends is just a belief, which the author tried to conclude based on the show's ever-lasting popularity, that can be either correct or incorrect.
P.S: The sentence seems to look like an attractive contender because few main words used in the sentence is similar to the words used in the passage.
