(A) 90%
(B) 140%
(C) 150%
(D) 1,400%
(E) 1,600%

Percent Change $$=($$ Change / Initial value $$)* 100$$

Change $$= 191,000 - 13,000 = 178,000$$

Required Percent Increase $$= \frac{178,000}{13,000} * 100 = 1369.23$$ % $$= > Approximately = 1,400$$%

13 to 191
130 is 1000%
61 is closer to 52 (13*4)
Hence D

Since 13000 becomes 191000, the approximate percentage increase is in excess of 1000%(10 times more)

Only Option D and E remain for careful analysis.
15 times more is 195000(1500%), but we are able to see that the difference, which is 178000 is less then 195000
Hence, we have an answer option which matches(Option D)

1970 ===> 13,000

1983 ===> 191,000

% Increase $$= 191,000 - \frac{13,000}{13,000} * 100$$

% Increase $$= \frac{178000}{130}$$

% Increase $$= \frac{17800}{13}$$

% Increase $$= ~ 1369$$
$$% Increase = 1400$$ %

We use the percent change formula and substitute the appropriate values:

(New - Old)/Old x 100

(191,000 - 13,000)/13,000 x 100

178,000/13,000 x 100

178/13 x 100 ≈ 1,400%
