I just got dinged (applied January 5th) from Columbia without interview.
It's surprising to me because I've been invited to interview to HBS and Booth (international applicant, 760 GMAT, private equity). What are your thoughts? Got lucky at HBS/Booth or got unlucky at Columbia? Is it linked to the rolling admission system at all (bad odds when applying so late)?
With CBS, its got to do with the rolling admission process. The later you apply, the less chances you have to differentiate yourself from those already admitted.
You were not just "lucky" to get interviews at HBS and Booth. Your applications and your MBA story must have been great to get you interview invites at these schools. With top schools, it all comes down to a case of diversity when selecting 1 out of many similar profile demographics.
Good luck with your interviews at HBS and Booth.
