Looks like you've already worked hard Jatin, to increase your score from 640 to 710. Hence, unless you were scoring substantially higher consistently in mocks, I don't see any point in a retake.

Product management as a goal seems fine, but obviously needs to be articulated well. Entrepreneurship in the long term, needs to be thought through.

In other words, why would you want to wait for 10-15 years (long term) before you start Entrepreneurship? By that time, you will be (almost) 40+ and a person's risk-taking ability does come down with age, since other things in life take priority.

Basically, all these things need to be pondered over, so that your long term goal looks realistic and achievable to the Admissions committee and so that you are able to defend your goals confidently during the interview.

Hello VirenShah

You have an interesting profile. Moving from Btech Agriculture to MBA in Finance and pursuing your career in Finance, if presented well can make a very good example of your high learnability skills and diversity. Your academic % is fine, however, would suggest giving another attempt at the GMAT Considering the avg GMAT score of the current batch is 713. Do get in touch with us for a one-to-one profile evaluation and discuss the GMAT score.

Hi,

1. You already have an MBA qualification - so addressing as to why you need a second MBA in the application will be important. A second MBA is more than welcome but "the why" is very important.

2. Your academic scores are not that strong so a GMAT score of 670 might be insufficient to help you stand out. You should target a retake on the GMAT, the GMAT score is a good way to balance a low GPA, a higher GMAT would help you show your academic potential.

3. What are your goals post MBA? A rethink on any skill upgrade for your post MBA goals before a second MBA would also show your agility as a professional.

All the best!

Hi,
The admission process is quite competitive. If you think that you can retake the GMAT and increase the score - you should. Whether this score will be a roadblock - probably not. But a higher score will definitely keep you well placed in terms of the academic profile (GPA+GMAT).

I understand that my acads have been average. Gmat score is average too. Will this pull my profile down? Should I re-take GMAT?

Hi Viren,

While the overall profile looks decent, I would say a score of 700+ would be a safer bet given the growingly competitive applications at ISB.

Nonetheless, what matters the most is your story and your essays. We have witnessed admits at scores of <650 as well. Would recommend working the most at making a compelling story and absolutely flawless essays.

Hi Eksha,

I would say you have a stellar profile! As for the GMAT score, I myself got into ISB last year (EEO) with a GMAT of 700 and a graduation GPA of 7.5. At the end of the day, while GMAT is important, what matters is how you present your story and frame your essays.

Starting your own small business on instagram shows your initiative - as to why it shut down should have a solid backing.

Long term goal of entrepreneurship makes sense, but how it ties in with your short-term goal, is also something you should be prepared with.

I had a very similar profile - founded my startup, similar GPA and same GMAT score. Happy to connect for further help. Just fill out the form: forms.gle/nSNrFz4kjbJYQLCX6 for a free one-on-one profile evaluation and discussion/Q&A.

Hi VirenShah

- You should try and raise your score to above 700. While 670 can work in some cases, you have over a decade of experience, and this puts you in the highly experienced applicant pool at ISB. Applying with a sub-700 GMAT will increase your risk.
- You have rich experience with TCS which can actually be an advantage to offset your higher experience
- ECA seems average, it is more of interest than achievement. But for you, it is goals and fit with ISB that will be more important.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

Hello Eksha22

ISB will evaluate your candidature on 4 factors-

1. Academic potential- past scores are decent, GMAT is close to the avg too. A 720+ will put you in a better situation, but even the current score is not a deal breaker. Will depend on how you show spike in other areas (see below)
2. Work Ex- The brand on the CV is strong. The role can be used to your advantage if you present the career progress and achievements well. The years of ex is on the lower side and that is why showcasing achievements (or measurable impact of your contributions) becomes all the more important as you will be competing with other candidates with more work ex (and hence a higher probability of having more/better achievements to talk about).
3. Diversity- The extracurricular seem decently strong too and if you can weave a cohesive and relevant narrative (relevant to the B School application and your future goals), then even a failure can become a strength.
4. Career Goals- While the goals are clear (a good thing) not sure how realistic is this- talk about what existing skills and experience you have to make this transition successful.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hello VirenShah

The information is limited in nature and does not allow for a complete profile evaluation. Based on the information shared, please follow these recommendations-

1. Academics- retake the GMAT and target a 700+ at least.
2. Work ex- With 10 yrs of work ex, a sentence will not give enough info to review your profile. Talk about career progress, achievements, geographical experiences etc.
3. Diversity- Extracurriculars are old and weak, is there anything else that can help you stand out from the competition (as the GMAT is already low)?
4. Career Goals- missing in the post- this is the most important piece in the admissions puzzle. Without clear and realistic goals, slim chances of admission.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hello abhisheksingh2525

Not sure if you will be completing 2 yrs of required work ex by 2023.
Anyway, work journey is something that is not entirely clear here- after Law, you have been in content writing, is that right? If yes, the most important thing to answer here would be how do you plan your future journey- Law-->Content (why this after Law)-->ISB (why within just 2 years and why after content if you already made a conscious switch from law? Why within months of starting a new job?)--> Post MBA (why MBA and what role/company post MBA). Answers to all these questions will show clarity (or lack of it) as a leader who has clear vision of his career. Of course the answers must be realistic too.

Outside of this, scores are decent, target GMAT looks good, extracurriculars are strong and can help you stand out.

Hello jatin093

Your profile is quite typical of an IIM (Indian IT Male :-))candidate. Avg past scores, Avg GMAT, some on site international ex (can help to some extent), clear realistic and standard goals to talk about (that is product management. Entrepreneurship needs to be clarified with more details), decent extracurricular activities (even failed projects can become strengths if presented in a way relevant to the goals).
No evident weakness, but no clear spike either (which makes it difficult to clearly stand out in the large and competitive pool of applicants).
An easy remedy is to improve the score by another 30 points or more. The tougher way (which will still be needed) is to present yourself via a stellar application/essays and bring out each of the above feature as a stand out strength.
