Hi guys,

I just took the GMAT Online exam. I had one concerning issue: at the end of my verbal section, during the very last question, I wasn't able to submit my choice in time. I ran out of time but had already clicked on one answer choice. I even still managed to click next, but the time ran out before I could confirm the choice.

Does anyone know if there will be a penalty in this particular case? I've read different statements regarding this matter just now, ranging from there will be a penalty to there will be no penalty because the system just picks the chosen answer if there is one even if the time ran out after.

Hello, Melissa2020. As far as I know, you will be penalized on that last question. An unconfirmed answer choice is marked as incorrect, end of story. I recall reading about this very question recently, and GMAT Club founder bb wrote a similar response. I have tagged him for confirmation. (I checked out his recent posts, but I could not find the one I was looking for and got sidetracked.)

Best of luck to you, however this turns out.

I reached out to GMAC and luckily received a different response:

''If you have selected an answer and time runs out before you can hit submit (clicking either next or confirm), the test will still accept that answer. It will not be recorded as a missed question.''
