I believe the initial screening is based on submitted GMAT score, so if you are invited to apply and would like to attend Darden it is worth thinking about.

The actual application is nothing additional than the standard Darden application (at least it wasn't last year) so there is no added time/effort, although the deadline for the essays if you are applying in Round 1 may be pushed forward slightly.

The actual competition itself is very competitive, but a great experience. The Jefferson Fellows across UVA are pretty prestigious.

If you are planning on applying to Darden, there really isn't a whole lot of downside in throwing your hat into the ring for the Jefferson. These operate as separate bodies (Darden Admissions, Jefferson Committee) so it's not like you can get locked out of one or the other.

Thanks! I was invited, and submitted the Jefferson app yesterday. I just feel like I don't know much about it besides what's on the website.
Did you participate in this last year? Any insight on the process? (Ie when to expect to be notified if you made it to the next round, how many people get invited to apply, the panel/case exercise)

This is anecdotal, but it will take some time and you might see other people getting interviews and such and you will still not have heard anything from either the Jefferson or Darden. This is normal - since the process kind of runs parallel. It is also normal to not know a ton about it right now since the website and application are fairly cryptic and you don't hear much about it on the Darden side online.

Keeping in mind that I will assume it will be virtual this year and will be different from my experience, I wouldn't stress too much about the case/panel etc. yet. You will get a ton of information on that as you get closer and opportunities to ask questions, hear from current students, and prepare. They do a great job making sure you aren't feeling like you are going in blind. I really can't speculate on how many make a first round cut, but I know only a couple Darden students end up with the fellowship at the end.

Really can't recommend the process enough, Darden is a great school and it's truly a once-in-a-lifetime kind of opportunity.

Hi,

Can someone please share the process of Jefferson scholarship ? I know that there is panel interview and case competition. Any insights on what each of them entail and how to best prepare for them?
