I think Ilomelin has made some very good points. I would echo that at this point you should focus on the experience you can have at either of these schools. Tuck is known for its close-knit community, and so is Kellogg. The latter will, in fact, give you the same close-knit experience at scale because of the larger class size.

For consulting, Kellogg would be the best bet, not taking anything away from Tuck. The 50k debt should be easy to repay, with the typical MBB joining bonus and starting salaries.

Congratulations on this stellar achievement, and best of luck with your decision. Do let us know where you eventually decide to go.

Ilomelin
I’m sure both programs will get you where you are aiming to be. In my exp., Kellogg is a very strong program for aspiring Consultants, here’s why:

1) You can bid for interviews, even for MBB
2) Consulting is its main placing industry (even when you exclude formers) - high 30s (%)
3) Many former consultants to help you prep, find fit, and help you decide cross offers ;)
4) Chicago is a 30 min Uber away (hopefully this is an actual perk by the time you’re in school given the Pandemic), it’s easy to go to most consulting firms offices for network events, prep for interviews, and assess fit

On a different note: Chicago and NH are VERY different, think about what type of experience you want to have. That’s probably the most tangible differentiator between top 10 schools, particularly if your target industry is Consulting. You’ll see people from all top 10 schools at most consulting firms. That may not be true for PE/HF; since that’s not your case I’d tell you to focus on the experience vs prestige/ranking tbh. Prestige / Rankings are way less important once you’ve graduated, serve mostly to boost your ego. Like the GMAT, once your in it doesn’t matter if you had 650 or 780 - it’s just a number no one will ever ask you about after business school. What matters is what you do, not were you came from.

Not assuming anything about your financial situation, I can tell you that with consulting signing bonuses ranging 20-40 (or even some such as Deloitte paying for your full second year) and an avg base of 150+, student loans are manageable. But that’s for you to evaluate.

It’s a good decision you have to make - you won’t get it wrong.

Congrats!

Welcome to GMAT Club Hungryhippo12!
Awesome job! Congrats on your admits! I am jealous

mykrasovski - Happy Holidays. What would be your recommendation?

Adding kingmeri who recently posted a great review of Tuck: https://gmatclub.com/reviews/business_school/tuck-10

P.S. I think for consulting Tuck would be a worthy contender. I feel the remote nature of the MBA program is no longer a downside during these crazy times...

I think it all comes down to fit. In which community would you rather spend your time, Kellogg has a great community within a beautiful city, Tuck is very closely-knit in a more remote area, but people still trek down to Boston quite frequently (in normal times). Which one do you see yourself fitting into? If you would like to talk to more Tuckies message me and I can connect you.

As for consulting, that has been my goal at Tuck. I could not disagree more with the comment about Tuck's brand within consulting - that is Tuck's specialty. While networking my alumni ALWAYS replied (even the partners). Our school is smaller, but we have alumni in every major firm and they are so kind and accessible. Our largest employer of the class of 2020 was one of the MBB firms (now over 10% of that class works for that firm). Overall 42% of the class of 2020 landed in consulting; I don't know of another school that places such a large portion of its graduates within consulting.

Anyway, happy to help however you'd like! Congratulations on the admits and amazing scholarships! You are a very accomplished applicant. :)

Hungryhippo12 congratulations on your admissions! Both programs are excellent.

I totally agree with kingmeri about consulting opportunities at Tuck. I was very impressed with Tuck's focus on consulting. All major consulting firms (regardless of the city) employ Tuckies who are accessible and willing to connect with prospective applicants. Also agree that difference in scholarship is not huge, but $50,000 is a decent amount you could invest elsewhere.

If money does not matter to you at all, I'd consider cultural fit and location. Will you be happier if you stay very close to a major city or do you love outdoorsy lifestyle? Tuck is uniquely located around best ski resorts on the East Coast and many social interactions happen on the slopes.

You may also take into account COVID19 situation. Tuck's location and community size allowed very little virus spread and as a result we had hybrid classes until the Xmas break. I've heard that many major programs transitioned to fully virtual in October/November. Hopefully we all get the vaccine by end of 2021 and pandemic should not be an issue then, but you never know...

In any case, think about what factors are most important for you and listen to your gut. You will do well in either program! Should you want to chat about Tuck, feel free to DM me.

Happy Holidays!

I feel being in the woods makes everyone equal. Everyone is forced out of their comfort zones. Not usually the case with Kellogg bad number of school such as Colombian Stern a large population of local students who are in a diff boat from everyone else. I think they called those commuter schools. Again not per se an issue with kellogg but still, bring in the woods not always bad 😎

Hello!

Huge congrats on your admits!

I would say that in the range of money you are, it won't necessary matter a lot; adding that you will be going into consulting so you will be able to pay that loan pretty quickly. As of opportunities for consulting I would say that they might be at the same level even when Kellogg might have an edge in overall prestige because of the M7 brand. Regardless, in both schools you will get interviews for top consulting firms MBB, etc...

SO I would go with fit... I would go to the place in which I feel I could be the best version of myself. I didn't apply to Kellogg but I have heard great things. For Tuck, I felt at home the moment I talked with the first Adcom :)

Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about Tuck any further...

Great place to be at :) Huge congrats again!
