UG: Bachelor of Fashion Technology (specialisation in Fashion & Apparel Production) - National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi (consistently ranks top in Asia among its Peer colleges)
GPA: 6.9/10, among the top 25% of the batch (4 as per mba.com conversion table)
PG: MA in HRM with CGPA 6.5/10 (Among top Universities for graduate studies in India)
GMAT: 720 (Q49, V39)

Additional Coursework:
- Business Analytics Specialisation (4courses + 1 capstone project), Wharton Online
- Business Stats with R, Duke University online
- Product Management Foundation - Darden University online

Work Experience: 4 years
Industry: Indian Conglomerate -Aditya Birla Group (1.5 years, worked in HR & Project Management as part of management rotation program across Fashion Retail and Manufacturing) + Entrepreneurship (2.5 years)
*My graduate rotation experience Aditya Birla was sort of internal consultancy experience as each rotation would start with a problem statement for a given sector/business unit, and involve problem diagnosis, creating and deploying solutions. While each rotation (or project) differed in complexity and area of concern, they all were strategic and of high impact in nature. Also got an opportunity to work on a global assignment in US.
*Entrepreneurship: I always had entrepreneurial bug, so when an opportunity to join the startup in space of fashion accessories came up (as Co-founder) 2 years ago, I immediately made the jump. For the last two years, I have dabbled across operations and marketing. Managed launch of 3 product categories, reworked marketing strategy to increase reach by 3.5X, took care of inventory planning and vendor management beside taking care of talent management. It has been a great learning curve until now, however, at times I found myself lacking in knowledge/expertise in taking things forward.

Thanks for suggesting Duke & USC, I have seen your response on Tuck board. Duke is among my list of 'safe' option. I was also looking into UNC Kenan, but its deadline seems really tough for me (R2 is 10th Dec), will it be alright to apply in R3 then?

I wouldn't recommend R3 - by then, most of the places in the class would have been filled. For Indian applicants, it is especially important to apply in the earlier rounds.

Nationality: Indian Male, Commerce graduate, Bachelor of Business Adminstration. Will be 32 years old at time of matriculaiton.

Undergrad percentage: 61% from University of Mumbai

Post graduate diploma in Management: 4.3/7

Gmat score: 700 (planning to retake the test by December '18 end)

Work experience total 7 years, will be 8 by matriculation: 2 years in KPO, 5 years in Banking operations. I started as management trainee and later was the Senior Analyst for Trade operations in corporate banking. After that I moved into commercial banking as a team leader and eventually became Assistant Manager managing a team of 8 for credit card payments, financial instruments clearing and doorstep banking activities. I've also been instrumental in the development of an online tracking system for banking deliverables to customers.

Extra curriculars: Organising and leading CSR and other corporate events at my workplaces. Have also volunteered at an NGO for mentoring underpriveleged children

Post MBA goals: Transition from banking to management consulting providing operational consulting for financial institutions.

Hi there - thanks for writing! It sounds like you have progressive work experience and solid academics. If you feel that you can increase GMAT, it would be worth taking again - scholarships are very competitive but GMAT is factored into these decisions, and the average score for Anderson is above 700 anyway. Are you involved in any extracurricular pursuits? This would be good for your profile as well (and could potentially be highlighted in Essay 2 in addition to mentioning it on your resume).

Hi mbaMissionNishaT, I've seen replies often about how competition is higher for Indian male applicants. In comparison, what would you say is the competition for Asians (specifically Asian females)? And do they make distinctions between applicants from Asian countries vs. Asian Americans? Thanks

AdComs do distinguish between applicants born in the U.S. (Asian/Indian-Americans) vs. abroad. Regarding competition for Asians, I would say that it varies by country (China is especially heavily represented in the applicant pool). I think that while it's competitive for both genders in this demographic, more so for males. Hope that helps a bit!

Hello,
I am looking to apply to the FEMBA (Flex) Program in January and am wondering how competitive my profile is.

28 y/o Caucasian U.S Citizen
Currently live in Denver which means I would commute each month.
B.S. in Business Admin, emphasis in Accounting - University of CO - Boulder. 3.91 GPA. #7 of 673 business grads.
GMAT: 680 V:40 Q:43 IR:8 AW: don't know yet. I just took the GMAT yesterday and have no idea what happened with my quant score. I think this is decent enough for FEMBA?

5 years work experience at Fortune 50 company as a financial analyst. 3 years as accounting and 2 years as budgets/overhead management. Most notable achievements have been:
- Finance lead for accounts payable/supply chain processes on the merger of another business area into our own business area. Managed transition of 6 financial systems and $200m of accounts payable.
- Lead for development and coordination of 2019 company budgets. Modeled, developed, and communicated $1.4B of overhead budgets to the company organizations and management.
- Starting 2019, accepted into company's Financial Leadership Development Program (1 of about 20-25 members in company).
- Various company awards for leadership

Nothing too special in terms of community/extra curricular activities since I have focused the majority of my time on work/career progression. Various volunteer events throughout the years.

I do not have any specific post-MBA goals except for the fact that I truly enjoy large amounts of responsibility and leading company projects. I think an MBA from UCLA would help broaden my perspective, hone my leadership skills, and build my network. I also look forward to being exposed to different industries and career paths (coming from a mostly corporate finance background).

With that said, question on the GMAT... I think I fall around the average of FEMBA applicants. I wish it was a better score and feel that I can definitely improve my quant score since I was a little fuzzy on a lot of the concepts and had to guess on the last 3 questions due to time constraints. My question is, if this a "good enough" score to get into FEMBA and I don't retake, will that decision come back to haunt me if I end up pursuing typical post MBA careers like consulting, finance, etc? I have heard that some firms will use GMAT scores as part of the selection process and I feel that a 680 is less than stellar... On the other hand, if I retake it, I would have already submitted my application to FEMBA and the new GMAT score would solely be used for potential hiring down the road (assuming I'm accepted into FEMBA this round). Any thoughts? I appreciate the help.

Hello all, please review my profile:

26 years old Asian American male, moved from Hong Kong to LA about 10 years ago.

Went to community college for the first 2 years of college, graduated with 2 associate degrees and a GPA of 3.9. Transferred to UC Berkeley and graduated with GPA of 2.8. Cumulative undergrad GPA is 3.4.

Took GMAT 3 times, highest is 690 (Q48V35)

WE: 4 years
Been working in a large bank since graduation in consumer banking. Started off as a management trainee in San Francisco, then moved back to LA to become assistant manager, currently a branch manager in Orange County. During my professional career, I have been promoted twice and received 2 corporate title promotions and 6 top performer awards. My team was the most profitable team in 2017.

Short term goal after MBA is consulting; long term goal is going back to banking to become an executive.

Activities/ Community service: volunteer with the bank in community events; was a student leader in the undergrad’s student government.

Hobbies: fly small aircrafts, travel to national parks

Hi there, and thanks for writing! While your GMAT is not out of range for the FEMBA program, I would recommend retaking it especially if you've only taken it once (and especiall, to boost your quant score and show that you're capable of doing the work). Even if you retake and don't improve, the program will admire the effort and you'll be able to tell yourself that you did everything possible to maximize your chances. And yes, it is true that some banks/consulting firms (but not all) have been known to ask for GMAT scores.

Before you apply, though, you want to have a very clear idea of what your short and long-term goals are so that you can make a strong case in your application for why an FEMBA from Anderson is right for you - they want to see that you have a plan (even if it changes down the line). Typically for FEMBA, people stay with their current employer in the short-term and aspire to reach a higher level or switch into another function.

I am looking to apply to the FEMBA (Flex) Program in January and am wondering how competitive my profile is.

28 y/o Caucasian U.S Citizen
Currently live in Denver which means I would commute each month.
B.S. in Business Admin, emphasis in Accounting - University of CO - Boulder. 3.91 GPA. #7 of 673 business grads.
GMAT: 680 V:40 Q:43 IR:8 AW: don't know yet. I just took the GMAT yesterday and have no idea what happened with my quant score. I think this is decent enough for FEMBA?

5 years work experience at Fortune 50 company as a financial analyst. 3 years as accounting and 2 years as budgets/overhead management. Most notable achievements have been:
- Finance lead for accounts payable/supply chain processes on the merger of another business area into our own business area. Managed transition of 6 financial systems and $200m of accounts payable.
- Lead for development and coordination of 2019 company budgets. Modeled, developed, and communicated $1.4B of overhead budgets to the company organizations and management.
- Starting 2019, accepted into company's Financial Leadership Development Program (1 of about 20-25 members in company).
- Various company awards for leadership

Nothing too special in terms of community/extra curricular activities since I have focused the majority of my time on work/career progression. Various volunteer events throughout the years.

I do not have any specific post-MBA goals except for the fact that I truly enjoy large amounts of responsibility and leading company projects. I think an MBA from UCLA would help broaden my perspective, hone my leadership skills, and build my network. I also look forward to being exposed to different industries and career paths (coming from a mostly corporate finance background).

With that said, question on the GMAT... I think I fall around the average of FEMBA applicants. I wish it was a better score and feel that I can definitely improve my quant score since I was a little fuzzy on a lot of the concepts and had to guess on the last 3 questions due to time constraints. Hi, and thanks for writing! Regarding your profile, your GPA is an area of concern - a 700+ GMAT would help offset it, and in any case address the GPA in the optional essay in a way that indicates responsibility, ownership, and growth since then. It sounds like you have progressive work experience - hopefully you can get strong recommendations that attest to your performance, potential, and growth with specific examples. Regarding your goals: why do you want to first go into consulting before going back to banking? Be sure to provide a clear rationale in your ressays. Also, use Essay 2 to highlight a personal passion (whether one pursuit or a theme) since Essay 1 covers the professional.

Overall, though, I think that UCLA is likely a stretch school given your profile - are you looking at USC as well?

Work experience and leadership- Went for masters immediately after my undergrad. Finished masters in Oct 2017. Came back and joined my family business. Been working for the past 2 years. We are into real estate. Looking to pursue an MBA with real estate specialization. I also manage a couple of private equity investments I made in the past two years in the fields of F&B and Agritech. I also started a firm to do small scale projects and manage the investments on my own.
Community and others - As a family, we do a lot of community service and specifically work with an orphan and below poverty school by helping the kids with their education. We set up a library under the name of my grandparents recently. We spend time at the school organizing special lunches and sports for the kids on the birth and death anniversaries of my family members.
Sports - I represented my high school and undergrad school teams in Cricket and Volleyball. I was the captain of my U-13, U-15 and U-17 cricket team in middle school and high school.
Post-MBA goals - Join my family business and make a smooth transition of the business from my father to me. He is going to be 60 in a couple of years and wants to retire or at least just advice me on the business instead of running it.
Anything else?
I love cooking. I worked for free as an assistant to the head chef at a farm cooking school in new jersey so that I get to learn how to cook. I use to help him in the cooking classes, monthly dinners and weekend open market at the farm. They only use the ingredients produced by the farm in all their events. I learned to cook French, Italian, Mexican cuisines and basics techniques.
Travel - wildlife, nature and adventure enthusiast. Lived in 2 countries other than India for a period of more than 2 years. Traveled to around 12 countries including Galapagos Islands. I also traveled around 14 states in the USA including Alaska. I love hiking and trekking. I visited around 5 national parks in the USA.

For a full-time MBA program, the average length of work experience is 4-5 years, so I recommend waiting at least a couple of more years before applying. In the meantime, I'd boost GMAT to 720+ if possible (given how competitive admission is for Indian applicants) and, if your extracurricular experience was collegiate, then resume your community involvement at this point.
