I would also choose UNC, better finance program and alumni network in finance especially in Charlotte. NYC is possible, ton of alums there from my personal conversations. Kelley is a great school, but UNC is a tad bit better. Goodluck!

Where do you plan on working post MBA? If you're looking to stay east coast near raleigh/NYC/Boston area I would choose UNC. Also if your goal is to pursue any sort of finance or consulting...

Indiana if you are looking to stay midwest

UNC has a larger network for opportunities

Thanks again for all your thougta. I am not so particular about the location as well. UNC is probably better than Kelley but I'm just not sure if the huge cost difference can be justified.

I have received admit from Kelley and have been waitlisted by UNC.

Should I contact UNC with a letter of intent to give me a decision or is there something else I should do?

Why don't you try to negotiate with UNC and see if they can provide you with better Scholarship. This way you might be able to reduce the Gap.
I have seen many people do it in past and it worked for them.

Hi,

I got acceptance from UNC($10k per academic year) and Kelley (Full scholarship). Post MBA industry is preferably finance but I would be open to explore other options. Cost difference is significant. Any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks

There’s also plenty of scholarships out there that you can apply for outside of the school too you know... just requires a bit a research and lots of essay writing. If costs is a deciding factor I would look into alternative ways of funding your MBA.

Ultimately I think you should choose the school that aligns with your career choices as you’ll get the best ROI from your degree. Look for yourself what program you like out of Kelley and UNC. But if your going consulting or finance, UNC is much better. If your looking at general management, asset management, then you have to decide what area of the US you want to work in. Midwest or east coast?

When you say finance, do you mean IB? If so, UNC hands down--Kelley does not have on-campus recruiting and sends <5 people into IB. UNC gets some banks on campus and has a deeper historical pipeline (~8-10% of the class).

If it's general finance I'd say it's a toss up so choose based on fit, but you would likely have to hustle a little bit harder from Kelley as the network strength is not as good on the east coast. If you are comfortable with general management or finance roles in the midwest then follow the money!

Thanks everyone! Between UNC and Kelley I have decided to go with Kelley and will try to keep my post MBA options open. I got admission offer from Cornell One Year recently. Cornell is no doubt a better brand and well known but since this is one year program I will not have internship opportunity. Hence, may be difficult to get a job or change my field. On the other hand Kelley may offer little less opportunity but scholarship is huge financial benefit for me. For finance Cornell probably will still be better. As per US ranks also Cornell's ranking is better. Cornell stands at 15 where as Kelley's ranking is 21. Any input is much appreciated!
