The answer should be C.
If y=1 then since y>x x has to be -1, the value of x+y will be 0.

Isx - y < 0, what is the value of x + y?

(1) x^2 – x – 2 = 0
(2) y^2 - 2y + 1 = 0

I think you mean 'if'.
