Hi, thanks so much!
None from Darden, $20K from Ross. Not enough to make a difference, given Ross is the more expensive program.

Yeah, $20K is insignificant.

If you are wanting to stay in the DC area, I would be inclined to say go with Darden. I know some people go solely for rankings and so forth without fully taking into account the location they want to live in. Darden should have a much stronger alumni base in your area and I feel that would play to your advantage in our current economy.

1) Where do you want to live AFTER you graduate? If DC area, or mid-Atlantic more generally, go to Darden. Otherwise, Ross gets a +1.

2) Ross is a quantitative oriented school, too. Don't think it's not.

3) The case method isn't solely for quants. Business involves math. Either school will entail the use of numbers ... lots and lots of numbers.

4) For someone looking at consulting or general management, either school should serve you very very well.

5) Someone else can chime in ..
is there value in being able to tell a recruiter you're on scholarship? If so, +1 to Ross.

6) The alumni network domestically and internationally is much larger at Ross.

7) I'm very intrigued by the Michigan Model of Leadership. This could be good for you to embrace.

........

I voted for Ross ... but it was a 51 / 49 vote. I can 100% see why you'd pick Darden, and would high five you for it.

Super helpful, really appreciate your insights.

Looking to go to NY or DC after.

Definitely spending the summer sharpening my quant skills - very necessary for both programs, as you note - but I am for some reason having a harder time wrapping my head around the case method.

And thanks for bringing up the leadership model - not something I had considered!

The essence behind the case model is to try to put you in the position of the decision maker.

You will need to master the case method to get a good consulting job.

Look into how McKinsey, Bain and BCG interview and hire. What do they look for and how do they determine who has it and who doesn't. They actually give cases in an interview to learn how you think about business problems ...

Congrats for both schools.

I think both will help you achieve what you want. But Here I have 2 notes:

1- You must have plan B as competition is fierce in consulting area. Try to picl the school that could help in both.

2- You are totally right about knowing your capabilities of case method. I have attached below some links to help.

Sometimes I feel that case method is over rated... I had a mix bag of professors who would use case method (the ones from HBS) and the non case method, I liked professors without a PhD more than the professors with a PhD - they shared their experience and they would talk from a real experience. Now that’s me.

For you, I think both are the same unless you want to be in consulting - UVA is the winner for consulting. I think UVA also has a slight (but negligible) edge over Michigan for finance

Darden 100%

1. You want to be in DC (or NY). For NY, I don't think it matters too much. But for DC, 100% Darden.
2. You said you love Charlottesville.
3. I turned down Darden because of the location (I wanted to stay in NYC), but would've loved the case method teaching.
4. Ann Arbor is super cold... it's not negligible if you don't like coldness.
5. Given COVID situation, definitely agree with your point on being able to hop on a car and go to interview/visit family.

Given all these, Darden is the way to go. But, if you fall in love with Ross, no fault there too

Y'all are the best for your feedback, tips, and resources. I ultimately chose Ross.

It was a tough pick, for sure -- as noted, they are very similar programs. I realized (i) I'm not sure I'm looking to come back to DC for the right reasons -- when I get to B School, I might want to have more geographic markets open to me -- and (ii), more importantly, my heart was set on Ross. Nothing against Darden, just a gut feeling.

I'm sure I'll be missing Charlottesville when I'm snowed in mid-April, but for now I'm pretty happy with Michigan.
