Hello everyone,
I took the GMAT online exam on 6th June and wanted to share my prep journey and exam experience. Hope this helps some of you out there.
Exam Preparation:
I decided to take the Online GMAT due to lock-down. I started preparing in 2nd week of April, by giving a mock in which I scored 700. My target was to give the GMAT by the first week of June. Initially in my preparation, I just practiced questions from various topics. I didn't have a well structured plan. In a couple of weeks, I realised that I needed help to build a structured approach. Due to very limited time on hand, I decided to reach out to a test prep co. Thats when I got in touch with E-gmat. I had a call with Archit Bhargawa (Egmat expert), who suggested that I sign up for a monthly plan and their mentorship program.
Due to the very limited time on hand, it was crucial that I identified my weak areas and allocated my time wisely. This is exactly what Archit helped me to do. He helped me to identify which stage I was at in each topic/sub-section and suggested a step by step plan forward. This plan really helped me drill down on my weak areas and stay on track. He also had regular check-ins with me throughout my preparation to help me analyse my tests and suggest course corrections when necessary.
I especially liked the verbal section in the course. I found that the style of questions very closely resembled official questions which proved to be advantageous during the actual exam. Also since there were enough questions for each topic and each difficulty level, I was able to customise my practice quizzes. The detailed solutions to each question really helped me to identify the correct strategy to solving questions and which stage I was faltering at. As a result I minimised the time I took to solve SC questions thereby leaving me more time for tricky CR questions. Along with the E-gmat questions, I also solved CR & SC OG questions.
Exam day:
Check in - I had some trouble launching my exam but examity support helped me resolve the issue. Due to this my exam check in started about 25mins after the scheduled time however the check-in process there-after was smooth and the proctor helped answer all my queries.
I started with Quant and was stumped on the first question itself but managed to solve it taking a little extra time. Overall I found a few questions very tough and had to guess them in the interest of time and so I thought I wouldn't score a Q50, this was a little demotivating and I went into the verbal exam with that mindset. In the verbal section, I found the initial SC and CR questions tricky, post ~10 questions I got a better hang of things and I was comfortable in this section. However I did have to guess a few questions especially towards the end.
IR seemed fine (scored 6), however I couldn't solve all the 12 questions in time; maybe because I hadn't practiced IR before the exam. The last section was AWA, for which I had memorised a template and had attempted during 2 mocks. This section seemed fairly straightforward.
After completing AWA you get to see your scores and as expected I had scored Q49, however I was slightly disappointed to see I scored V40 since I was aiming for a score >720; however I plan to stick to this score now.
At the start of each break and post the exam, the proctor asked to see whether the white board I was using was wiped clean and during the course of the exam the proctor was responsive to any queries I had which contributed to an overall smooth exam experience.
PS: Would definitely recommend going for Egmat for test prep.
