Even after combining the two statements, the intersection of French and English is unknown which is needed to reach to the conclusion.
I feel the question could have been better if it were not a poorly worded question.

Solution
Step 1: Analyse Question Stem
- • Let the total number of students in the class be 100
Step 2: Analyse Statements Independently (And eliminate options) – AD/BCE
Statement 1: 50% of students in the class know English, 20% know French.
- • \(a + c = 50\)
• \(b + c =20\)
- o We don’t know anything about the rest of the 30 students
o We also don’t know how many students know more than 1 language.
Statement 2: 30% of those who know English, know Spanish and 50% of those who know Spanish, all those who know neither English nor French, know Spanish.
- • We don’t know how many students know English or French or both languages.
Step 3: Analyse Statements by combining.
Even after combining both the statements, we can’t find the percentage of students who know Spanish.
Note: - Many students will mark the answer as option C, in that case, they will assume c = 0, but we are not given how many students know English and French both. This is a C-trap
Hence, the correct answer is Option E.
