In the spring of each year, some Executive MBA (EMBA) candidates want to pursue their dream of joining a top EMBA program soon. Can you imagine starting your MBA at a prestigious school like Columbia, MIT, Booth, or Kellogg in only a few months from now? These schools and more are still accepting EMBA applications for the Class of 2026 (which matriculates either in the summer or fall of 2024). Additionally, Columbia, Booth, and Kellogg do not require a standardized test score as part of their admissions process. This is all wonderful. But, if you have your eyes set on such prestigious schools, you might wonder, “Is there still room in the class?” In most cases, these Executive MBA programs have accepted applications for months and admitted students. So, should you still apply now?
Typically, in the Executive MBA pool, applying in one of the last rounds is fine because most top EMBA programs still have room in their incoming class. Representatives at top EMBA programs have confirmed that this 2023-2024 admissions cycle has seen a desirable number of applicants. But, it has not been a hyper-competitive year like we witnessed during the Great Recession or following the Covid pandemic. Good news for you: admissions officials at schools like MIT and Columbia have indicated that there are ample seats left in their cohorts, and now is still a fine time to apply.
Note, however, that some programs like MIT have their final deadlines in early May (MIT will continue to accept applications through June 1, 2024, if there are still seats available). So, you should get moving in order to thoughtfully prepare an outstanding application.
As you apply during the final deadlines, hone and polish all your materials to present truly outstanding essays and recommendations, along with an excellent resume. You want to stand out, shining a bright light on your valuable work experience, extracurricular achievements, and personal story. This will give you the best shot at hearing a “yes” in the final EMBA admissions rounds.
