MER Answers MBA -Related Questions- Week 6

myessayreview 0

Well, we are back with the 6th week of our weekly series of answering prospective applicants' queries.

This candidate has received an admission offer from Tuck business school. He is in a dilemma whether he should accept an offer from Tuck or wait until next year to apply to an M-7 program.

Question:

Hi Poonam,

I hope you are well. I wanted your opinion about a decision and would be grateful to have your views. I got admission from Tuck, and I have loved the culture.

I have some reservations, though. Is it as prestigious as M7 schools? What is your opinion on its prestige in India for PE/VC? Do you think it's worth waiting a year and leaving Tuck for a shot at other M7s? Would it make a big difference in my mid and long-term career prospects? I would highly value your input.

Thanks,

Pravin (not real name)

Hello Pravin,

Congratulations on getting an admit from Tuck. Here are my answers (in blue font)

Is it as prestigious as M7 schools? What is your opinion on its prestige in India for PE/VC?

Tuck is a highly prestigious school, an Ivy League school. I wouldn't compare it with M7 schools because each school has its own merits. Also, I would not comment on its prestige in India for PE/VC.

Do you think it's worth waiting a year and leaving Tuck for a shot at other M7s?

I always emphasize the importance of 'fit' with the school. If the resources at Tuck align with your career goals and you like the school's culture, then I would not suggest leaving it to step into the uncertainty of applying to an M7 school next year as a reapplicant. First, there is no guarantee of admission, and even if you get an admit, you can't be sure that you will be a good match with the school.

Would it make a big difference in my mid and long-term career prospects? I would highly value your input.

Tuck admission committee offered you a seat in its small class of 294 students because they are convinced that their offerings will help you achieve your career aspirations, and you will also enrich Tuck's close-knit community.

I hope it helped.

Good luck with your Tuck experience.

Poonam
