Ankur Kumar, Wharton's MBA Admissions Director since 2009, has announced that she will leave Wharton as of Friday according to The Wall Street Journal.
Dean Roberts informed students that Maryellen Lamb, the school's former careers director who recently became deputy vice dean for M.B.A. admissions, financial aid and career management, will take over responsibility for the admission office.
Although I'm sorry to see Ankur leave Wharton, I'm not surprised,. Her resignation comes in the wake of a four-year, 12% decline in application volume at Wharton. It's not unusual for admissions directors to depart when application volume declines.
In the next couple of days I'll post my thoughts on the WSJ article that trumpeted the decline in application volume and may have hastened Ankur's departure.
