10yrs exp + 690 - Where to start for applications. 26 Dec 2016, 21:09

Hi Guys,

I scored 690 breakup IR 5 Quant 49 and Verbal 34.
I have 10 yrs work exp. of which 5 years in Investment bank - developing and supporting front end risk systems.

Now I am absolutely clueless about next steps to take and which colleges I should target.
I would like to study in India, Singapore, United States of America or Canada.

I am also looking for Visa related queries for USA and Canada (I will be doing bit more research myself).

So in short I have following queries in mind:

- Should I retake GMAT? I see lot of guys pitching for 760, I am not sure whether with current profession that is possible. I can target for 710-730 pragmatically.
- Which colleges prefer people with Work exp. and annual fees in those colleges
- I will be looking for Internship opportunities because it is delight to work and because as a foreign student I need to sustain myself.
- If there is a link on this site (or any other site) about colleges and there deadlines and average score + work exp + other factors that they look for, that might help.

So by now, you must have understood I am absolutely clueless. :-D

just to answer few qs

whether to retake? if you are consistently scoring above 700 in mock test, its just test day you got 690 then you can retake. otherwise 690 itself a good score.

choose five college, which is good in IB, i am not expert in that, 2 dream college and 3 safe college.

you are little bit late to join application , Round 1 is closed, so hurry up.

canada doesn't have any visa issues, most immigrant friendly nation.

Hi! To answer your questions:

- Since you're in a competitive demographic, a 700+ (pref 720+) is essential. 710 - 730 is a good range to aim for (of course, the higher the better, but this is a solid score)
- The majority of MBA programs are going to want work experience, as this helps you contribute to the classroom and gives you the expeirence you need to figure out your career goals. Regarding tuition - this information is on all program websites, along with the deadlines.
