Just took the GMAT yesterday and got a 720(48Q,41V, 8IR). Had I gotten a 49Q, which I think is possible when I don't make silly mistakes, I would have had a 740 total. My verbal is very consistently 40-41 and IR is normally ~6-8. I plan to apply this cycle to Ross (did undergrad a Michigan), Tepper, Kellogg, Fuqua, Darden. I am also considering applying to HBS, GBS, and Booth, I for sure would had gotten a 740 yesterday. 3 years WE as a Software Engineer, becoming technical lead of 4-5 developers after a year.
Hi,
It really depends on your overall experience. You have to satisfy several criteria, not just the GMAT score. Some of these are:
excellent achievements at both work and in extracurricular activities,
better than average career progression
solid career goals and a real need for MBA
impactful stories to tell.
If you think you are good on these fronts, you could give it a shot with the current score. If you can retake with minimal preparation and get a 740, that would be a preferred option. If you are from an over-represented category such as Indians, then a GMAT retake is a must.
