FortunaAdmissionsMJ, If I have a higher GMAT score around 760 compared to 740, would that compensate for the low GPA? I am giving more mocks and my score are reaching 760. Do you think it would matter much?

[quote="sdash"] you should be ok for the mim program but what is the start date? I would contact them directly as often it’s at time of th start of the program. That’s great you are learning AI. Is it a full time thing? jsut wondering why you aren’t working at same time? It could be an issue - really depends on how all consuming the course is - you would need to explain that for sure. overall, for most of the other mba’s, 2 years is on the very very low end of experience so I would wait another year or two if you can- especially for INSEAD (plus you will need int’l experience for this school). Averages are more like 5-6 years so it will be much more competitive for you to get in with just 2 years. But for the Mim’s should be fine - just need to check with each school. Great extracurriculars though and amazing you were champion in college!

Profile:
33 caucasin male

Extra Curricular:
Due to above noted health conditions I have not been able to pursue extra curricular activities while working full time (out of necessity to prioritize my health and work performance)
During undergrad I was a sport club president

Post MBA Goals:
As a team lead I learned that I would prefer to move to strategy and focus more on business aspects of energy sector
I want to move out of a technical role and am also interested in moving towards alternative energy industry
I want to move to a position where I can lead the energy transition and sit at the intersection of business, operations, and policy, and use my technical experience to lead in a practical manner

Target Schools:
MIT Sloan, Northwestern Kellogg, UC Berkeley Haas, Duke Fuqua, Texas McCombs
Plan to apply R1 to all four

Questions:
Does my health condition help to minimize the impact of the low GPA, also considering I did much better in the last few semesters when I got health under control?
Does the fact that I was forced back to an individual contributor role after being in leadership hurt me? How should I address this if so?
Does my age/years of experience hurt me? Part of the reason for waiting until now for MBA was also related to the health condition.
Generally, do you think my profile is competitive at these schools? What could make it stronger?

Thank you for sharing your profile. You are on the older side for full-time programs, but you have great work experience in the oil industry which I think many schools will find interesting and valuable to contribute your background and knowledge to their class. I would share your health condition and how it impacted your UG GPA (good to see improvement in last semesters). I think you are up front and honest with your role change at work (impact of the merger). Your extracurriculars are light so try to show what you enjoy doing outside of work and your personal qualities in the application. Possible add a few more schools in the top 25 to your list. Sloan, Kellogg and Haas are very competitive. Good luck!

GMAT- 760
Education- Bachelor of Engineering in IT
GPA- 66.2 % out of 100. But everyone was in range 20-80.
Work-experience- 4 years as a Business Analyst.(I have a career gap of 3 years.)
3 years at Accenture as a Business Analyst. My role was to serve as a bridge between Client and project
team, communicating with client and conveying the business needs to development team. So I guess, though my education is
that of an IT guy, but my work-experience has a business role, and that differetiates my from other IT guys.(Right?) Got
1 promotion at Accenture. Worked for 1 year at a start-up in a similar role.
Post MBA goal: Strategy Consulting at Big 4
No international work experience, but visited 7 countries.
Target colleges- Not sure.
Personal Story- I had to fight severe OCD, while all alone in Mumbai.Due to it, I had to take a break in my career.
It started right from the college and affected my GPA too. I alright now, but that has made me a fighter from within.
So, want to narrate my story around it.
Extra-curriculars: Done a lot of voluteer work at Art of Living(founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar). I joined it back in 2012
So, few questions:

1- Is my age going to be a negative factor as my work experience is 4 years only?
2- Which range of colleges should I target- top 10 or 10-20 or 20-30?
thanks for sharing your story and struggles. It would definitely be great to weave this throughout your narrative. Your age is on the high end with just 4 years experience but as long as you can tell your story, they can be forgiving. Though it is a very big gap. it will need to be clear what you did in that time and what you have learned, how you’ve grown and how you are excelling now. you gmat is amazing but gpa quite a bit low for top 10 so I would aim for 10-20’s. Perhaps even 1 or 2 20-30s. I would try to speak to admissions for some schools to get a better sense of what they think. All the best to you. I’m so glad you’ve fought through this and are doing well now. All the best

I definitely think you have a strong application though with your GPA might be tricky at some of the M7. Always worth it go for some reach schools, but you may have better chances at haas, tepper and tuck. Best,

Actually I had a major health issue. I am under physiotherapy sessions. That’s why I decided to learn AI to utilize the time and not be stagnant

Hi guys! Thanks for organizing this session.

I am from India, graduated from NIT and have 5 yrs work ex. in Biz. Dev. & Operations in 3 e-commerce startups (one is a unicorn in India) in leadership roles. Last 4 years, I’ve been full time volunteering as Digital Marketing Strategist & Operations Lead at a global non-profit based in India - scaling up digital reach across 10+ countries.

I will take GMAT in 2-3 months - aim to score above 720.

How is full time volunteering at non-profit viewed by adcom? What are my chances for admission to Top 20 B schools? Scholarships?

Goals: Marketing/Strategy roles in ecommerce. Later explore them in yoga/fitness industry as I am also passionate about them.
Sorry about that...I’m still here so can answer. That’s so amazing about your continued volunteering and sounds full on. All top schools will look at this as they want people who are involved outside of work and are trying to make a difference in the world. You can often use examples like this in your essays - and of course in the online forms they always ask you to list extra curriculars/volunteering. But often you can elaborate more on why you do it and what exactly you do more so in an essay - if it fits with the question. Hard to say about scholarships as each school is different and is somethign youc an apply to usually after you submit. Some are based on merit, some on academics where you some you have to write an essay for, others are given out byt the school without a scholarship essay. Really depends on what kind of scholarship it is - each have different criteria. Hope that helps

great i know how to phrase now, also should make sure i mention that the production team was made up of Locals + south African + British Companies. this helps a great deal and will surely add them .... awesome stuff
yes for sure!

sourav1995
will NGO work as covid relief be accepted as extra-curricular activities, how much value does it hold in an application?
yes def mention that!

NirupaD
Name - Nirupa
Indian, Female, 28
Target GMAT - 700+
Education - Bachelor in Engineering-8.7 , Diploma in Engineering-8, 10th-75%

Work experience - 6.5 Years
1. worked as Software Engineer at US based InsurTech fortune 500 company and at Healthcare and FMCG automation and technology company.
2. Co-Founder of handicraft social e-commerce startup, founded and registered in 2019.
I am from village where most women knows needle and thread art but not able to earn money because of lack of platform, technology and investment. We are helping these women earn money.
3. Partner at Import export and trading company
I am helping farmers sell their produces at price higher than MSP(minimum support price) by removing middleman layers.
4. CURRENT ROLE-Freelancer as Lead Software Engineer at LogiTech Startup

Why MBA?
I have gone had many corporate experiences and managed my startup over the years, but I learned everything in a try and error manner. Now I want to take a step back and use the MBA program to gain skills(management, strategy, marketing) in an academic setting.

Short Term Goal: To become a product manager in an AgriTech startup.
Long Term Goal: Social Entrepreneurship in AgriTech industry
Born in farmer’s family and being a tech person myself, I knew that in India and many other , farmers don’t have technology, data and advanced tools to make better decisions and ease the agriculture processes. My goal is to transform the agriculture industry through technology and improve farmer’s lives

Target Schools: M7, Haas, Yale, Duke Fuqua, Tuck, Ross, Said, Judge, NYU Stern, Insead, HEC Paris, ISB, Babson

Questions-
1. which college and program should i go for which will help me achieve my long-term goal(Entrepreneurship in AgriTech) ?
Any other colleges you want to suggest?
2. how can i highlight my strengths – Leadership, Community involvement and what do you find weakness in my profile? Suggestions you want to give to improve my profile/CV?
3. do you find my personal story strong and compelling enough?
4. I want to join AgriTech startup soon after my MBA and pursue my entrepreneurship career later down the line in AgriTech itself.
I am not sure if school will find ’join AgriTech soon after MBA suitable (because generally tech company comes into campus but not specifically tech company that works in agriculture sector) or Shall I still present this as my short term goal in my SOP? If so, how do I make sure it doesn’t look odd in the face of the AdComs.
Wow that's really amazing what you have done/are doing. Admissions will love hearing things like this (what you co-founded and how you are impacting lives) You have a great story to tell so tell it and be open and vulnerable! HEC paris would be a really really good fit in terms of your long term goals if I were to choose one. Do you have int'l experience though? This is very important for INSEAD, Judge, Said and Hec.
So have you been spending most of your time then your start up or are you doing both roles right now (start up and freelancer) As working as a freelancer for that start up won't look as strong I'm afraid from a career perspective. But if you've been dedicating most of your time to your start up that will be commendable. Any income/revenue from that? or do all profits go elsewhere? This all needs to be clear. If you can get a super high gmat like 730 plus then an M7 might be do-able but always best to aim high but have some more realistic reach schools.
All the best to you. You are doing great things and the schools will see you a viable candidate for sure.
