I consider this as an opportunity for the B-school aspirants applying next year, given that the deferrals were granted for one cycle yet the increase is for 2.

This is indeed great news.
Agreed that deferrals are granted this year to primarily allow students to start in fall 2021, but the official statement of the school says that deferrals are distributed over 2 years and not all for the class of 2023.

Hi everyone! Firstly, best of luck to everyone who is applying to Harvard and congratulations to those who have already secured an admit. We are two incoming MBA candidates at INSEAD. Last year, when we were in the middle of our application process, we had a lot of questions about business schools but not enough avenues to find the answers. We wanted to bridge this gap and, at the same time, relieve some of the stress and uncertainty the pandemic has caused in the minds of prospective MBA candidates. This is how our YouTube channel 'Role Call' was created!

Role Call presents its first live fireside chat 'Pursuing an MBA in Challenging Times' tomorrow, Sunday (22nd November) at 3PM GMT (10AM EST, 8.30PM IST, 11PM SGT). Our guest is an INSEAD alum, Sharath Jeevan, who graduated from INSEAD during the dot com bubble burst. He is one of the world's leading experts on intrinsic motivation and on how to apply motivation thinking to address our deepest problems. If you are an incoming or aspiring MBA candidate and you are feeling the burn of uncertainty all around, this session will nudge you to form a unique perspective. Congrats to you too!
I was a bit worried because I always look over my application day before and finalize things and for awhile I kept getting logged out haha.

Says we can expect to hear back on interview invite/rejection early February... going to be a long few weeks waiting - good luck to everyone!

Congrats to everybody who submitted for round 2 today. How y'all feeling? Honestly, I was a bit worried when I intended to update one last file a couple of hours before the deadline, and the screen was basically frozen for 10 mins+. Luckily it unfroze and I managed to upload and submit in time hehe

Anybody looking to connect and perhaps start prepping for the interviews, please ping/dm. Cheers!

Is the site just less active this year or is there an expectation that Round 2 has a sharp drop off in # of applicants relative to a normal year?

From previous years' topics, I see that the interview invites went out approximately 4-5 weeks after the Round 2 deadline. If that is any indication, we can expect to hear from them in the last week of Jan or the first week of Feb.

I also think that they will announce the dates in a blog post here https://www.hbs.edu/mba/admissions/Page ... ector.aspx

All the best everyone! :)

We are seeing a lot more traffic and a lot more page views but posts are somewhat flat .... it seems a different year with different dynamics, esp after we introduced some of the chat groups (some of the school discussions moved there).... at the same time I am also wondering a similar thing.... But that does not seem to make a lot of sense since HBS did not have R3 last year unless all the other schools so would be surprising that the interest/volume for HBS is lower....

The threads have been replaced by chat groups, almost a lot. Chats are more convenient I guess in terms of the sliding page.

Maybe.... at the same time is it possible that the increased deferred group with pre-assigned seats has potentially discouraged applicants?
I know a lot of the 9,000 or so applicants were just playing the lottery - applying to lower-ranked schools and HBS (which makes no sense but I am sure I would have applied too if I was not past the HBS's cut off date when I was applying).... maybe that group/demographic somewhat dropped off but that demographic was never big on participating/engageing in the forum topics as they did not feel they belonged there to start with.

P.S. I did hear that the R1 was heavy with US-applicants with many international applicants looking at EU instead.... but not sure I am really buying that would be a factor for the HBS... so let's hope/assume this is just the visibility perhaps? or people sick of being online all the time? (not sure I am just guessing)

Could be!!
But HBS has seen a surge in applications in total so I was hoping that there will be at least a little surge in the messages.

Also, you have no idea the kinds of crazy diverse and I mean truly diverse profiles are there at Rotman this year. All because of the elections, the people applied to Rotman and we have a person from 7th continent where basically no one comes from- Antarctica. Profiles of people are amazing and this does get overwhelming for people who compete but those who see that as an opportunity, that is a damn good leverage. Too bad I have to leave it for money.

You went to Wharton, right? How did you manage? the finances I mean

From the Harvard website

Quote:
Next week, on February 3 at noon eastern, you will receive an update via the application status page on the next phase of the process as we extend invitations to interview to a portion of those who applied. As we announced previously, all interviews will be conducted via zoom this round as we continue to navigate the global pandemic.

If you are not invited to interview, we will release you from the process next week so you can move forward with other plans. We sincerely thank all who submitted an application to HBS.
