There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
BTW, this is what I got from Ross (I'm sure many of you got this as well). The bold text is important!:
Thanks to those of you who submitted an application in Round 2. This round is historically our biggest, yielding about 60% of our total applications. So as you can imagine, the Admissions Committee is very busy reviewing your applications. We review every completed application that we receive, regardless of GMAT, GPA, or years of full-time work experience.
Interview Invitations Because we review applications before inviting applicants for an interview, it may take some time before you receive an interview invitation. Those selected will be contacted by email to schedule an interview. Invitations will be extended between now and the end of February. Applications are not read in any particular order. The timing of our invitation to interview is not an indication of an applicant’s qualifications or likelihood of being admitted.
We will make every effort to interview applicants who may be placed on our waitlist in Round 2, but some applicants may be placed on the waitlist without having been interviewed. We will reach out to those applicants during Round 3.
In case you can't view the article (I think it may require registration), here is the pertinent excerpt:
2.Has Ross seen an influx in applications this year for Round 2? How much do you think is due to the economy?
Typically, when the economy declines, business school applications rise. That has been the case for most of the economic downturns in the past. So if you would've asked me to predict app volumes in September, 2008, I would've been bullish. But as the financial crisis unfolded, and the loan market dried up, students, particularly international students, began rethinking their plans for school. As a result, our Round 2 app volume was down relative to last year. Many other schools are seeing the same thing.
