The word "legal" seems to be what is driving most of the public discourse on immigration these days. You're going to be in the States legally, so there is no reason to fear the government.

However, if you are from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, or Libya, unfortunately it looks like you would be best served by considering other options.

If your question relates to US culture and not public policy, I would have to explain in a different way why I think the US is still a great option for international students seeking an MBA education.

All the best,
James[/quote]

Hey James,

US has without any doubt the best environment for international students.
I am concerned about the policies the govt. might bring in the future. Treading on a cautious path, news is pouring in that many companies especially Indian IT firms are planning on hiring more American workers rather than International ones to make their business less prone to scrutiny by the govt.
I think this might affect employment opportunities for International applicants.

Regards,
Vikram

Hello Vikram,

Your apprehension about the current political situation is valid. There are definitely many political twists that could possibly affect International students. The school however, is an equal opportunity provider and you will not have any academic issues as an international student while you are pursuing your MBA. Employment opportunities may differ in case there are drastic measures with respect to the visa sponsorship, but, there is no such indication yet. There has been no news about companies changing their hiring strategy. Do not compare yourself to the IT/ outsourcing hires since MBA level jobs are at a different level. If you have specific questions, please reach out to me on a private message.

Hey,

Yes you are right. I should not be putting the MBA grads in the same boat as IT professionals. And i certainly do hope that I am being paranoid for no reason. But then again its anybody's guess as to what policy the govt. might bring in. This uncertainty is what rattles me. Lets hope for the best.

Thanks a lot for the insight.

Regards,
Vikram

Hi everyone,

I submitted my online application on Feb. 1, the final deadline for international students who seek for scholarship. But I have not finished the video application response yet as I do not have a good preparation for it now. I intend to submit my video this Saturday. It is said on the school's website that "Your application will not be considered complete or evaluated by the committee until you have completed this part of the process, which is separate from the Penn State Graduate School application." If this video is a separate part of the application, should my application be considered for the Round 2 (Feb. 1) or moved to the next round which is the deadline for students who do not look for scholarships? And the practice questions are the same as the real ones? Thank you.

I am not particularly sure about the deadlines you will have to ask the officials. The questions in the actual video essay are not the same as practice ones.

Posted in the wrong thread earlier. I submitted my app on deadline day (Feb 1) and haven't heard back yet. How long does Smeal typically take to reach a decision to interview?

Hi,
I'm preparing my application for 2018 and I want to be as prepared as I can, so could anyone here shed some light on the video essay questions for Smeal ? What are the questions or what kind of questions should I practice before the oficial video?

thank you very much,

Eddie :-D
